svcd on a dvd

[RubixCube]

What is the best way of putting an svcd dvd. Im using DVD2SVCD but when i try to encode the movie (avi to svcd) i guess the files are too big and wont encode properley. Ive tried avi to dvd but cce seems to crash and i can never get to work corect. any help would be deadly at this point.

RubixCube, I am researching this "VCDXBuild failed to create a bin/cue file!" problem. Please rack your memory and try to remember if you have replaced any files in dvd2svcd. For instance, did you download Donald Graft's dvd2avidg or mpeg2decdg? Please think about it and let me know. Thanks.

No, never downloaded anything like that. In fact, i have gone so far as to install a clean version of XP with just the DVD2SVCD program and the approrate codecs packs. (GordianKnot.CodecPack.1.5) Im realy starting to wonder about this program at this point. I just tried to encode a small video (60 megs) and now im getting bsweet crashing. Is there any end to the insanity!

What was the source of the small video you had a crash with? BTW, we are working hard to figure a few things out. No need for your opinions at this point, just your answers

Also, if besweet crashes it is usually because of an unstable machine as besweet stresses a cpu drastically. It would be great if you could run the Prime95 torture test for at least 4 hours and let us know if it is interupted. You can download it here:

Of course, if you are using stupidly made Dixv or Xvid encodes as source, then sometime that can crash BeSweet. In that case use the procedure that is in the Index Sticky, or just click on my sig. See: "About AVI2SVCD problems and how to fix them"

I successfully converted about 15 AVI's to DVD, even with AC3 sound and adding (permanent) subtitles without problems. I use DVD2SVCD with CCE and the mdvdauth plugin from jsoto (see DVD2SVCD Advanced Forum)

Ok, im trying to track down some of the problems now. Ill keep you posted on my results. Im going to try yet another divx/xvid, and see what happens. I cant see the probems comming from my computer hardware, i have all good gear in it. crappy vids, yes, i can attribute some of my problems to that. But not all. Im starting to think that it may be cce. Ive have reinstalled it and now im going to try and encode. Ill let you know what happens. Thanks.

P.S. I wasent trying to bad mouth DVD2SVCD, just venting my frustration on the endless attempts of trying to mearly create a video to play on my TV.

This is off the wall, but are you using stripped drives? I understand YOU may not think it is your computer hardware. Nobody ever does. What I was asking you to do was a favor and run Prime95 just so we can rule that out. Linear regression of a problem requires cooperation

Ok, i have finally successfully created an svcd, or at least the .mpg file. I think alot of the problems i was having was a faulty install of cce. Now, the problem im running into is the unable to create the images. (i have always had this problem) Here is my vcxbuilder log....

How do i correct this? In the mean time, i will continue testing some encodes to see if this is what is causing people so much trouble with encoding with cce. To answer your questions...

1. no im not running raid.
2. I will run prime95 tonight and let it run to check my hardware.

Do you have easyvcd installed? If I am correct, if you try to create an image in vcdeasy, you will find your mpg has a bad packet. This is where I am at the moment. This old critter is a very frustrating one to flush out. Grrrrrr.

Anyway, if you could try to create a cue/bin in vcdeasy, it would really be helpful. Right now we are trying to isolate (read: find) the common elements. I would think if everybody had this problem the board would be overflowing with messages about it. Right now you and I seem to be the only ones with the problem.

Anybody else experiencing the "VCDXBuild failed to create a bin/cue file!" please add a me too in this thread so we will know if it is widespread or just specific to a few of us.

Well, seems you are trying to make a SVCD too big. Bitrate tab in D2S is with DVD settings.

CDSize: 4480.00
Number of CDs: 1
Cut point 4475.00

Because you use SVCD bitrates, the encoder will be preset to max av, rate (2230)

Min. bitrate: 300
Max. bitrate: 2530
Avg. Bitrate: 2230

And the result is only one CD (instead of 2), but too big to be managed by VCDXbuild (80 min= 360.000 sectors= 797,88 MB)

ERROR: image too big (547252 sectors > 449850 sectors)

EDIT: Try changing bitrate settings and (may be, not sure) a recover from muxing will work. That means:
1.- Recover (Misc tab) and select your d2s file.
2.- Change bitrate settings (Bitrate tab)
3.- Select muxing in recover from and continue (Misc tab)

@DDogg: Sorry, but this seems not to be the problem you are trying to isolate. Personally I do not have the "bad mpeg packet" problem, I can't help you.

I do not know if I understand well what are you trying to do, but..

if you want to put in a DVD media some "svcd like" movies, I think there is not other option than to use a DVD authoring proccess. You can use D2S produced files, but the elementary streams (mp2, mpv), not the muxed (mpg) ones.

The recommended SW to do this kind of authoring is TMPG_DVD_Author, see DVD/miniDVD forums

Beware: SVCD format is not an officialy DVD supported resolution, but it has been stated that any SVCD capable settop is usually able to reproduce it.
