I'd wait for it to show up on the english page, but thats just me.

Id laugh if flashing with the Japanese version gives you a Region 2 drive. =)

I don't see them ever changing that. It is apparently a MPAA thing. You'll have to wait for a hack, I think.

I would suggest you buy a 16x Pioneer drive or something and use that...

I've had great luck with a Lite-on 16x DVD-Rom for ripping dvds. Single layer, I've gotten up to 15x and dual layer I've gotten to 9x.

It's HERE

It's here!!!! WHO HAS THE BALLS TO TRY IT? Please post results.

Firmware Upgrade 2.0F (notice the capital F... that means it's SERIOUS!)

-Allows your Dual RW drive to record at 4X on 4X compatible DVD-/+R media.
-Improves reading and writing performance and reliability.
-Reduces vibration noise for the discs with unbalance or eccentricity.
-Improves audio playback on written discs with stand alone systems.

i installed 2.0f (upgraded from 2.0e) ill let you know how it works once i burn a few discs. updated fine, tho my computer shows the drive now as 'cd drive' vs 'dvd drive' shrug, read a pressed disc fine, havent played with it yet. tho if it's like all the other updates (like i expect it is) it should work flawlessly. (tho i still havent tried burning g04's on any version of firmware i used...1.0d,1.0f,2.0e..f..)
