Mpeg1 film problem. Wrong time length

I have a movie that is encoded in NTSC mpg1.
It will play on a standalone player with no problems but if I try to copy the mpeg file from the disc it is slow as hell.
Copying the file directly, or using VCDGear to convert from .DAT, or even copying it as an ISO and then extracting the file has not helped. Sometimes it will work and take an incredibly long time to copy (45 mins) to hard-drive. Sometimes it won't work at all.

Nonetheless, I now have the file on the HD but my problems have started again. If playing the film in MP or any other player will show a total playing time of seven & one half minutes.
If I try to re-encode the file (which is what I'm really trying to do, I would like to share this film with my friends but PAL is the primary format here in Australia) it will generally encode up to this seven & one half minute mark and then just freak out.

I have tried to encode with TMPGenc & Canopus Procoder. But no joy.
I have used MPEG Corrector without improvement and I have even tried demuxing and remuxing in TMPGenc. (It won't even demux, with simple or normal demux)

Please, any assistance would be appreciated. I'm stumped

Try extracting the file with ISOBUSTER.

have you tried blindwrite, about a month ago, a was re-burning dragonball gt series, to lower the disc space (33 -> 16), and i had a couple of vcd that couldn't be extracted using vcdgear for some reason, so i just tried blindread (part of blindwrite) -> multigap, and made a perfect iso copy (as pefect as they come).

Hi Dani,
I have no problems making an ISO image of the VCD but my problems come when I am attempting to convert the movie from NTSC to PAL (or in fact at anytime I try to manipulate this film in any way, apart from copying).

i think it's a little all-v-s (go with it, can't remember the corect spelling) that there's something wrong with your iso copy, first download daemon tool (freeware) and mount your image to see if it will play over 7 1/2 minutes w/o freaking out; if it doesn't, then you made a bad iso copy and then give blindwrite a try; if it does go over 7 1/2 minute, then i have on idea what to do.

also, when you say "freak out" do you mean the video/audio starts to get corrupted (hissing, high pitch beeps, and the picture start to fall apart), like watching a very scratched up vcd, but there're no scratches on the vcd; then, the same thing happen to me.

Ah,
Yes the file will always play through without problem.(apart from incorrect time reporting)
I have ABSOLUTELY NO TROUBLE COPYING OR RIPPING AN IMAGE FILE. There is also no problem with mounting said files on virtual drives.

My problem has to do with encoding the extracted file which appears to have been corrupt at the time of its original burning.
