Not working either. It seems you have to be logged at Canopus site now. I downloaded it last night by registering there.
I'm trying to use DVD2SVCD to do my DV->SVCDs. So far I've learnt that:

You have to use the capture/editing software provided (mine is VideoStudio 5.0 SE DVD) to add the titles, cut the clips and such.
Then you have to output an AVI hopefully with no much loss (either with a good DV codec or with a really lossless codec) to your hard drive.
DVD2SVCD does not read DV AVIs without the proper codec, so you have to install it.
The codec should be the Canopus (also panasonic or mainconcept, but Canopus is prefered)
I'm quite lost. ![]() Video Studio is very unnatural to use for me. Can I use MovieMaker? Is a type-2 AVI prefered for DVD2SVCD input? Canopus freeware codec is now "read only". How the hell do I use the HuffYuv codec here? Do I need to convert the output AVI with the Canopus converter? bb, excuse my ignorance. I created an SVCD using your TMPGEnc guide, but I really like to use DVD2SVCD to do the hard work of resizing, overlapping, and such.

I use Pinnacle Studio 8 and I can save the work in any installed codec from the system including HuffYUV. r6d2, try Pinnacle Studio 8. With WinDV you can to select what type of avi (type 1 or type 2) to transfer from cam. And I have some questions too: 1. For deinterlacing (if I want that) what filter to use in the AviSynth script from D2S and if I need another filter which is not coming with D2S. 2. I have the MainConcept codec installed and the Canopus. My DV avi have FourCC dvsd and the codec used for that is MainConcept. For converting with Canopus Procoder I need to change the FourCC to cdvc? I read that Canopus DV Codec have problems with chroma. What's happen if I check in D2S "Convert Microsoft DV avi to Canopus Codec" and my fourCC is dvsd? I need for that and for the Four CC cdvc to add the line FixBrokenChromaUpsampling()in the AviSynth script from the Frameserver tab? |

You should save in type-2 format, else you have to convert to type-2 later, which costs time and twice the hdd space.Quote:

![]() Sometimes I just don't have the time to answer immediately. In this case I had to try the current DVD2SVCD version again, which takes some time. bb |

By the way: Nowadays I would not resample to 44.1 kHz, although this is the SVCD standard. If you ever want to put your SVCDs on a DVD, you'll need 48kHz. And as far as I know, DVD players don't have problems with SVCD 48kHz playback. So don't check "Audio 1 downsample 48 -> 44.1" in the Audio tab. bb |

![]() Thanks, I understand the reason and place to use HuffYUV, but then yet another stupid question (the last one, I hope): ![]() How do I tell my "capture" software, after editing, to use it at saving time? I expected to see a "Save as" option, but I don't get it.

Your DV capture software will always capture DV format - it's a lossless transfer of the DV data from your camcorder's tape to your PC's hdd, not comparable to analogue capturing. You probably want to edit your DV source before you encode it to the final format, and here's where the Huffyuv codec can kick in: Although good video editors render only edited parts of the video, there will be a (tiny) generational loss after each saving step; because each time you save to DV format the edited parts will be recompressed. Chossing a lossless codec avoids this generational loss, thus you can edit the same part over and over again without degrading quality (at least not due to recompression; any filters applied may still degrade quality). For the same reason some people use frameserving. You have to decide yourself if it's worth the effort for you. I usually stay on the straightforward DV path. bb |

I've asked the same thing twice and still have not made myself clear. Then again, I understand the DV stuff you mention. I transfer the DV to disk, as lossless as ripping a DVD (I used the word "capture" between quotes to reflect a loose meaning) . Then I edit the stuff, add the titles, transitions, and create an AVI type 2.There's where I expect a "Save as" in my editor, to use HuffYUV as the output codec. (I hope I explained it clearly now). (As mtz suggests it exists in Pinnacle Studio, which I don't own.) BTW, I'm not liking VideoStudio because it is very intrusive. It always runs maximized, preview mode overwrites your windows and the guide sucks. Also, remote controlling the tape from the PC does not work out of the box. MovieMaker recognized the camera, rewinded the tape, copies the stuff, separated the scenes, and all it asked from me was just a couple of clicks. I'm not a MS fun, but I have to confess MovieMaker impressed me. Quote:
I'd prefer a lossless DV->AVI conversion until I manage all the stuff.(Same thing happened to me when started ripping DVDs to SVCDs. I used CBR@2530 "just to be sure". Now I can put a 3 hour movie in 2 CDs.)

r6d2, do you really want transitions and effects on DVD?
You can edit the DV avi in VirtualDub for join & cut. If you want only an menu and chapters, you can use de TmpgEnc DVD Author, to remove the rest of parts that you don't really want. In this mode, you can encode directly from DV to MPEG2 using D2S. |

I want to create am edited version with some effects and transitions, and then feed the output to DVD2SVCD and create a DVD-frame size SVCD. (I'm very comfortable with DVD2SVCD). But I'll explore the tools you mentioned too.
