16:9 movie plays at 4:3 and choppy

Ok... I tried ripping two movies that are both 16:9, The Count Of Monte Cristo and Jason X.

On both I needed to downsample, so I used CCE. I am sure I set the aspect ratio correctly, but the final authored product plays zoomed in at 4:3 and very choppy at any faster motion, which i assume is because it is zoomed in.

I tried authoring The Count Of Monte Cristo in Scenerist and ran into this problem, so i used IFOEdit v.95 when i tried JasonX. They both have the exact same problem.

Now comes the odd part, both rips play perfectly in PowerDVD, but fail on the PS2/Apex 500W. I havent actually tried them on my XBOX yet... And while i was waiting the five days to post here, I have thrown out my invalid DVD-r's.

Any ideas what could be causing this? It has to be an encoding problem, but what could have caused something this odd?

one of two problems i think;

- you have incorectly set the 16:9 flag in the authoring program (unlikely as you say pdvd is fine)

- your dvd player is setup for the wrong tv type (ie 4:3 for a 16:9 tv, or vice versa)

I dont know about when I did it in Scenerist... I might have hit 4:3 there, but im fairly sure IFOEdit doesnt ask you...

As for the DVD Player setup wrong... Is this even possible with the PS2? It could be with the Apex yes... I'll check that when i get home from college. I'd do it now but my friend is asleep on the couch in there and i dont want to wake her...

I got to thinking... The CCE tutorial is for an older version of CCE, and the version I'm using has at least one extra option. Should i check "Drop Frame" when I'm encoding in CCE or not? I dont know if i did for Monte Cristo, but I'm sure I did for JasonX... Maybe that is part of the problem?

I checked it because I know in Scenarist for NTSC movies you have to change everything to Drop Frame... Or at least thats what I've read... Hmm...

I will be getting a DVD-RW disc in the mail shortly... So I will be able to test this fully without wasting any DVD-Rs

Ok... So I tried some settings in the Apex... Turns out it was indeed set up wrong and had the display mode set to a Widescreen TV and when i set it properly it played in the proper aspect ratio.

Even so, i tried changing the settings on my parent's SamSung player and it had no effect whatsoever... And it's still off in the PS2 and i dont even think you CAN set that... Still havent tried the Xbox and forgot to try it completly... Erased the DVD-RW already...

Now, theres still the problem of choppy motion...

Is 6000k vid + 448k Aud1 + 192k Aud2 + 1 sub stream too high of a bitrate? That would explain the motion problem...

What is the limit anyways? It must be higher because the 6000k was downsampling it, and i removed 2 audio streams and 1 subtitle stream at least...
