SVCD With DVD capacity

the idea is to tak the svcd compiant files and record them to dvdr thus getting a 4.7gb svcd so by wich you could put 2 or 3 movies per disc,

what i wanna know and hve not found out yet is what standalone dvd players would play those 4.7gb svcds

That's not exactly a new concept, I know of quite a few people using that method. We just had a visitor who used that practice a couple days ago in the Basic forum, if memory serves.

I don't know how broad standalone support for it would be, though I have a feeling it would be rather limited.

But if you're going to put the movies on a DVD, why not use the DVD standard, not SVCD? You could compress the video as usual, to fit a few movies per DVD disc, but then your compatibility issues would be a nonissue, as about 85% of DVD players can play DVD-R/+R discs.

Just use 352x480/576 as your resolution. This complies with the dvd standard and is very close to SVCD resolution, so you can get comparable quality at those bitrates. You will essentially get dvd compliant video at roughly the same size and quality as a SVCD so you can fit multiple movies on one disk.

Yes, USE the CVD resolution instead of SVCD. All my rips are in that format, so when I'll buy a DVD recorder, I just have to copy my CVDs to a DVD R.

Use the audio at 48000 because to be DVD compilant, must not be 44100. If you are not sure, just make a small CVD on CD-RW and play it with your own standalone DVD player. Mine (Philips 723) works fine with VCD SVCD CVD (both with audio @ 44100 and 48000) maybe earlier models won't work so fine. Just try
