Convert 5.1 AAC to AC3

Ok, im really pulling my hair out on this one.

I don't have a clue on how to convert an 5.1 AAC file to 5.1 AC3.
The reason being is that i wanted to play it back on a PS3, but the PS3 only supports playback of 5.1 sound with AC3. So i was going to just demux the MKV file i had, convert audio to ac3, and remux to m2ts using tsmuxer. Can anyone please help me? It would be greatly appreciated.

I think I read in another thread that the PS3 will now convert 5.1 AAC to pcm internally without downmixing to stereo (at least over HDMI). Never tried it myself though.

With the recoding, you could try the aac decoder nero ships with its encoder and then reencode using aften.

That is EXACTLY what i was looking for. Thanks. What I did was use nero aac decoder which made a big 5.1 Wav file that was like 4GB. Then, i used aften (which kinda gave me hell at first) and i got an AC3 file. Finally, i just used the actual MKV file for the video source and AC3 for the audio source and muxed it into a m2ts which played with no hiccups on the PS3 in 5.1 sound!

The only problem is after, i found this program called mkv2vob, which sadly does all of this for me (and quicker). :
