Convert dvr-ms to mpeg/wmv & burn to DVD

Need to convert my dvr-ms video files from Windows Media Center 2005 to smaller format, e.g. mpeg, wmv or other and then burn to DVD (editing options would be nice).

New to this area and really confused about which program to use: DVR2WMV says you can't use NVIDIA decoders?; dvrmstoolbox (reviews are can't remove program & screws-up Media Center); VideoRedo (not familiar with); dvrms2mpeg (again not familiar with) and a new one MCEBuddy (needs Microsoft .net 2 and DirectShow decoders) and so on.

All the advice you can give would be appreciated.

Convert dvr-ms to wmv, etc.

Thanks for the info. Downloaded 'dvrmstoolbox' from www.babgvant.com and it was quite simple to use. Did a test file with a large dvr-ms from Media Center and converted to mpeg in about 6 minutes. Plan to try other formats.

Trying to save space on my computer.

Need help with next step. I'm a beginner to this area of converting, compressing and transcoding. I would like to put some of these videos onto DVD:

1. what is the best format to convert to?
2. once video is converted, how do I transcode (I gather that's next) and then burn;
3. what program would you use to do this?

For example, can I go back and use Media Center (XP 2005) and if so 'how'. Or use another program like Nero?

Thanks,

You can try River Past "River Past Video Cleaner"! One small and useful app.
