What type of media do store bought DVDs come on?

Does anyone know what brand of media the store bought dl dvds are? Can consumers purchase them? You know the ones that are shiny silver on the recording area...

Commercial DVDs are pressed, not burned.

Burnable disks have a dye layer which is altered by the laser, making it opaque. All burnable media will have a color to it on that side.
