DVD-Video to CD-Audio: track offset

Hi everyone,

I often read here but rarely post as I always find the answer to my question in other posts. But unfortunately, I have not bee able to find an answer now so I have to ask.

I just got a music DVD-Video which I want to convert to CD-Audio. The sound track is 96 kHz / 24 bits LPCM. I tried to demux it directly with DVD Decrypter, but I always got a vob file, not a wav file (I even checked the header to verify), so I extracted the audio with DGIndex. I tried to downsample it to 44.1 kHz / 16 bits with BeSweet, but it wouldn't work as BeSweet would always assume it was 48 kHz, so I used ssrc from the command line and it worked. The original wav file and the new wav file have the exact same lenght close to the 1/1000 second. To create my cue sheet, I used the file created by DVD Decrypter (Chapter information - OGG), which is the same that can be created by Chaptor-X-Tractor with the OGG preset (with a 0,001 second difference, which doesn't matter). I the created a cue sheet with Chap2Cue. Everything is OK up to now.

When I mount the image with Daemon Tools and I play it EAC or any other CD player software, the track are more and more offset compared to the audio (4 seconds at the last track). I checked with Audacity to find the exact track change positions to confirm it. All tracks are off by approximately 0,13%, which amounts to 4 seconds at the end of the disc.

The difference between 30 fps and 29,970 fps is 0,1%. Could it be related? Is there something I could do for the tracks to be in sync without having to correct the cue sheet manually?

Well, after all I decided to manually correct the times by multiplying them by 30/29,97. The result is much better now.

If I had known about CueMaster and the fact that you can search and download files from freedb, things could have been much simpler.

Thanks for the thread, very helpful. I have been looking for a way to split DVD video into seperate audio files.
I like Rush too!

I don't think you can find DVDs on freedb though.

You can't find DVDs on freedb, but in my situation it was an album available both as CD and DVD with the same songs.

For this album, I wanted one continuous wav file because of the transitions between some songs. If the songs are all seperated, you can use the "split by chapter" option in DVD Decrypter when demuxing the songs.
