I got this one for a replacement of a broken DVD player by my shop.
still I dont know what he gave me. is the dvp5900 a true HD DVD player. Can I buy some of these news HD movies and play them...i dont have a HD TV. I have heared some players are upscaling players, what is that? in the brochure they dont say anywhere it play 720, but only DVD 580x720.I have a HDMI connection. any info? |

This player cannot play HD movies. Max. resolution is 720x576.
HDMI is not equal with HD. HDMI output is just a connection which make some upscaling (see in the player menu the values) for TV Sets with HDMI input. enjoy, Mtz |

ah, good to get more info.
on my player, in video setting, I have 4 choice: 576p,720p,1080i, and auto... then in the manual, it says to not use a cd cleaner cuz the laser uses higher power than cd or conventional dvd player. and finally, on the tray, it is printed high definition/dvd player http://www.consumer.philips.com/cons...37_GB_CONSUMER ??? Hi John,
Only a few days ago you asked the same questions regarding the Philips DVP5900 HD video playback abilities, over in the General Discussion forum

sorry if i did post same question in general forum...
ok, I see, so it is not a HD player i have but a upscaler.just a regular dvd player . well, I think a HD player would cost more than 100$. all these dvd players like Oppo, are just some upscaler. how much cost a HD player?average... Last edited by johnhamler1; 25th September 2006 at 19:28. |
