choppy Huffy, good Mjpeg? what did I do wrong?

Hay all,
This is an easy question:
I am running windows 2000 of a Pentium 4 1.8Ghz with 512Mb ram and a ATA-100 120 Gig disk.
I created a seperate 80 Gig NTFS partiotin, just for videos.
I am using iuVCR to record from a BT878 tv card.
I get good clips while grabbing to MJpeg.
When I try to grab to Huffy I seemed to get missing frames, and the clip seems choppy.
Using Google I found lots of stuff , but no plain answer.

HuffYUV needs to be configured properly; in particular, be sure to set your driver to capture in YUV rather than in RGB ... RGB requires 24 bits per pixel, wheraas YUV (YUY2, usually) needs 16.

See Section 6.2 of the Capture Guide, and, in particular, section 6.2.2.2.

i guess you have DMA enabled for the drive?
and you are not doing anything else (with the PC) while capturing...

Playback of HuffYUV encoded files may be choppy if your hard-disk isnt fast enough - however this isnt a real problem as you probably dont want to keep it HuffYUV but encode to something more managable.

Or are you gettind 'dropped frames' while you're capturing with iuVCR?

I should point out that I use HuFFuv v2.1.1 - CCESP Path v0.2.5.
The the drive is 7200 RPM ATA100 - so I guess it fast enough.
As for the famous DMA , going into the device manager and opening the drive properties, I didn't have an option to enable DMA.
Therefor I moved the disk to the on-board Promise controler.
This is the motherboard I use: GA-8IRXP

Going in to the device manager for that device, I have no option to enable DMA.

When I engage in TV recording I iuVCR reports dropped frames, Iwve re-encoded to mpeg4 and still is seems choppy. so I geuss the problem isn't with the Playback.

I will try to see what settings are used, but I remember I used YUV.

I used to capture using Huff without problems.
I started using MJPEG when I started having space problems on my HD. But now I can't use Huff anymore, I always lose frames, and lots of them.
My machine is still the same, no other program running during capture, the HD is OK, everything just like before (probably not everything). Dunno why it is happenning.
I don't mind, cause I'm capturing using WinDVR. But I'd like to know how to solve it too. I already unistalled and installed Huff more than one time, and diff versions.

The devices may not have the settings (thats W95/W98/WME). Instead, look to your IDE channel controllers.

or try to enable dma first in the bios settings and then in the windows side. i presume you have correct cables...

at least seems to.
I went to the Motherboard manufactor site and downloaded the drivers.
For the record, this is more then a year old motherboard, and I have done a clean install half a year ago.
Makes no sense they changed the driver.
However it wrks now in the Best quality in YUV2.

So thanks for the moral support, given me a resone to solve this issue.

Best isn't quality, its size. HuffYUV is a lossless codec.

Though in his case RGB data would most likely be converted from YUY2 so YUY2 yields better quality
