How to make a DVD with an AVI and .ssa Subs

Hello Everyone :)

First time poster here but i been a reader for some time :D i need a little help here.

I have an AVI file and the subs are in .ssa format what do i use to make it a DVD with subtitles?? i tried looking on the guides here in Doom9 but i didnt see anything that was related to what i have.

welll... I think you might import into some DVD apps, or convert to srt using 1 of a few available tools, then use DVD app that accepted srt, or convert to sub (graphics) format & import into DVD app.

So 1st question I imagine is what program are you planning on useing to create your DVD layout? Then see what it accepts. :)

i have DVDLab Pro and i can get the subs to load up but i cant get the .avi to be recognized by the program. What other program shoui use??

OK, for the avi you need a program that will encode it to mpg2 -- actually what you'll do is de-mux it into a video and an audio track, then encode each. There are several guides and posts on converting the audio to ac3 or mp3, depending on what format the audio is in now and which you want to use. Might not need to convert it at all, but just separate it (de-mux) and import it as is. The video should be more straight forward, but you'll need to know what kind of video it is, basically just how it's compressed or encoded, then figure out which encoder you want to use. There are 3 or 4 that are pretty popular, and you'll see thiese listed as well in the guides, stickies etc...

Well i want it to be encoded in any way aslong as it can all fit in one DVD. I was trying to use Ulead Movie Factory 3 to make it a DVD but the only option that lets me fit it all into a single disk is if i use DVD-VR which i dont even know what that is :P

When i get home ill de-mux the video file.The file is an XviD. Other than DVDLab is there a program that its easier to use and or has better options?

turns out i dont think i have anything to demux the avi what software do i use for that?
