Hi there,

Sorry many weks passed since the last release...but I'm missing many beta testers...so it takes longer to have results....
Anyway here are the changes :

0.30b - 2005/09/21
- Corrected the max value for Quantization, it was too low sometimes causing some stuttering or some rate control errors.
- many OPV improvements
- Improved the multipass rate control.
(For DVDRB users, you should keep the default value for CCETargetSectors, DVDRB seems to oversize by itself.)
- Corrected a bug discovered by Prodater64,Zyphon and Danpos from the BDVD team, the matrix in the ECL file was not correctly taken into account.

ye sorry about that have had a few personal issues to deal with (still am - ill health mental and pysical) - will try and do a few test encodes for you soon

might even try to do one later today when i go out for a few hours leaving the pc all alone :)

a frank question, does the decoder have already incorporated of for if the technology qmatop, is using the decoder the mentioned technology used that is to say without necessity of activating the qmatop individually, only with pointing from the cce to the exe of the decoder and adding in the rebuilder ini CCEAQM=1?. thank you and to excuse my English

Yep QMatOp is fully included in AQE, and it's even an improved version of it...faster and better.
You just have to set CCEAQM=1 in your DVDRB settings(you must use the PRO version otherwise this setting is ignored). Then use AQE instead of CCE and taaadaaa...oh something else for a better quality I recommend you to uncheck in AVS Options the ConvertToYUY2().

does you forgive so much question but am I quite interested in your proposal, is the question configured the rebuilder as if the encoder was cce?, and how many last for you the ideals would be?, thank you again.

Yep...just replace CCE by AQE...and that's it...everything is similar.
When you say "how many last" I suppose you meant how many passes ?! If it's the case...You can choose as much as possible, because once the Rate Control has converged to a perfect fit, the remaining passes won't be processed...

EDIT: The mode must be CCE SP Trial

I just discovered this codec yesterday and have been testing it out a little with DVD ReBuilder Pro. I'm not an expert in these matters and would like some information if anyone could help out.

1) What exactly is QMatOp? I'm using it and can guess from its name that it's a quantization matrix optimization feature. At least that's how it looks to me. Is this so and is there any reason NOT to use it?

2) I used One Pass VBR with AQE (setting it in the CCE Options). Does this negate any settings that relate to the number of passes used? This seems like a silly question with an obvious answer, but I want to understand for sure how this works.

3) Is it better NOT to use One Pass VBR and use multiple passes instead? Intuitively, it would seem so, but, again, I'm no expert.

4) To set a higher number of passes, do I do it in Options / CCE Options / Advanced Settings?

5) I've seen mention that the AVS Options / ConvertToYUY2() switch should be toggled one way or the other. Is this so? If so, what should that setting be? I don't understand why settings for a codec not being used would come into play.

1- QMatOP is an algo I made for finding the best quantization matrix for a movie, it's based on the tool developped by the NASA called DCTune. It's better to use it in many cases...better visual quality. Especially for low bitrates (<4000kbps)

2- Not sure to understand your question ?! For OPV it uses the OPV settings (min/max/Quality)....

3- I would say yes, it's better to use the multipass engine for many reasons, one is sizing, the other one is quality especially at low bitrates <4000kbps. Moreover, for now I didn't take time to fully optimize that part of the encoder, it's one of the thing I have to work on....So If time is not an issue for you, you should use the multipass engine.

4- yep

5- In the case of AQE, it doesn't really matter how this switch is...AQE will take care of everything...


I would like also mention that a new version is to be released this coming weekend, it was really improved : faster and better. You can already have it by accessing the betatesters area (link is at the bottom of the main page)

* Added an number of frames autodetection when last_frame = 0 or not specified. (Introduced for DIKO)
* Here is my first template for DIKO (not tested yet)
* Changed the Q range valueof OPV from a linear one to a logarithmic one...it seems to work better with DVDRB.
* Tweaked the RC for OPV
* Corrected a bug in the PPM writing core function, it was discovered by Danpos from the BDVD Team. Thank you for your tests.
* Corrected a major flaw in the QMatOp engine...Some flat matrices were generated in some cases. Thank you oxa for finding it and running many tests.
* Corrected a bug found by Danpos (BDVD Team) : When the AVS script was producing a Field Based movie, the script refused to open. Thanks again to him !!!!
* Corrected minor bugs
* Removed limitations to the QMatOp engine + Adjusted the core formula (better for low bitrates)
* Added a parameter to change the speed of QMatOp (faster means means less precision) tc_ref_frm, default value 0, above 3 not tested.
* Generated matrices are now scan optimized (pure ZigZag or pure Alternate)
* Matrices are curved smoothed with quadrilinear functions.
* Adjusted the rate control
* Corrected the threshold for Ultra Low Bitrates encodes, it takes into account the resolution.
* Adjusted QMatOp to benefit from the quadrilinear interpolation functions...Faster and better.
* Added a remaining time info
* Corrected a bug found by oxa (blinking squares due to a very low quantization)
* Added a new VAF analyzer to assess more accurately the Qmin/Qmax after the first pass.
* Added a min bitrate correction function
* Spikes should be gone at high bitrates !!!!!
* A stupid error in the ECL parsing was corrected (Thank you oxa for this one)
