Characteristics :

- MultiPass enabled - Above 4 passes is close from useless but can be performed

Installation/Configuration :

Install it anywhere then use AutoQMatEnc.exe instead of CCE SP Trial.

DVDRB users : just make DVDRB point to it instead of CCE SP.

NON DVDRB users : To create your own ECL file you can use CCE SP Trial with ECLCCE.

I have never tried DVD-RB yet since I've always chosen to remove all extras and unneeded audio (keeping Movie + Menu's only) for my backups. I just installed DVD-RB free version and AviSynth2.5 to try. Do I need to install anything CCE related to try AutoQMatEnc? Thx for any info provided (no matter how detailed the replies may come ;) )

nope all you need to do is point dvd-rb to the exe for AQE - think its in the cce new box and adding either adding adjust_q_matrix=1 in ECL
or CCEAQM=1 in the REBUILDER.INI file to the respective files - bearing in mind its adds another pass onto the encode as it checks each gop so if you have say vaf+2 (3 in cce part of dvd-rb) it will do 4 passes - may take longer than other encoders but the quality is good

Thx alot Carpo. I chose to add CCEAQM=1 to the .ini file since I do not have Procoder either. As for vaf+2 stuff, it's all new to me so haven't associated the encode lingo to actually whats going on since I've never read up on compressing technics. But in time I'll learn hopefully. :)

BTW, should CCEAQM=1 be placed under [Option] or under [CCEoptions] in the .ini?

if you have cce basic you dont need eclcce - you only need that if you are using a trial version of cce - and for 60$ you could buy it although its not needed if your using AQE


About the HC option i think you have to point dvd-rb (if your using free version) to it in another box - cant remeber off the top of my head which it is - you could donate a few $$$ and get the pro version of dvd-rb :)

Thx for the help Carpo. I found latsilva's program (ECLCreate) hoping it eliminates need of anything CCE related software. I don't feel I'll require compressing enough backups to warrant paying for CCE. Just tinkering (experimenting) now, but If I can learn to use DVD-RB okay I'll donate and go pro.

Ok, since CCEAQM doesn't work in free version I'm off to donate for pro version.

When I encode any movie so far using the newest beta avisynth, I get the corruption issue stated in other threads that can only be fixed by using a newer dgdecode that rebuilder doesn't support yet, but I get the correct filesize when I do use it. If I use the stable 2.55 avisynth then I don't get the corruption issue but the expected and actual filesize is way off and I get a couple hundred megs undersized in the end. For both I am using the newest rebuilder pro with the dgdecode provided with it and 3 passes without messing with any of the default settings for matrix of gop or anyhting, just idct is 64 float.

What movie ?? kind of movie ??? Compression ratio ??? (I'll precise to use avisynth 2.55, as my interface to avisynth was tested/developped with 2.55)Did you try 4 passes ?? (sometimes it solves sizing issues on very dark movies)
[EDIT] If you don't have any sizing issue when not using the correct avisynth that's perfectly normal, the picture to encode is not the real one but some kind of noise...so many details to encode that the sizing can't be wrong
Underszing can occur on movies with low details movies: Animations, Very dark movies, ... a 4th pass should may solve this issue. And in many case, the picture won't be better ...because there are so few details to encode that the first size was enough...

theres your prob beta versions of progs will be buggy (thats why they are beta) - cept M$ (thats always buggy nuff said :D) - best to use stable 2.55 till dvd-rb is updated to use the newer dgdecode - think jdobbs was on about updating the support but not too sure on that - maybe he has in v1.00 of dvd-rb we'll just have to wait and see

im giving sapstars encoder a real good test - even keeping all the extras and dts audio - its not looking too bad atm, thats being said i try and never go below 3000Kbs for any release - cus if you look at it as

vcd = 1150
svcd = 2550 - think

if you go that low you might aswell rip it as a svcd or vcd ;)

In my own tests I tried very low bitrates...for example, with LOTR ROTK, the avg bitrate is close from 2000, and I had amazing results...I'm always trying to optimize it for low, or ultra low bitrates as I think it's the most current usage....I even tried to encode LOTR ROTK on half a DVD (so the AVG bitrate was close from 1000, and I had surprisingly good results for that bitrate...)
[EDIT] HalfD1 with bitrates < 1000 gave me amazing results ! (but it's slower as the ultra low engines engaged)

Any way to reduce the passes to less than 4? I only have 8 hours max of computer time per day and can't leave it running outside that timeframe.

For "clean" animations...I would try a 4th pass (for sizing reasons)....but I have to improve the rate control anyway for this kind of cases....

ye under cce advanced options drop the passes down - i only used 4 due to the length of the dvd and the compression used

2= vaf+1 pass
3= vaf+2 pass
and so on - although i have been told that the vaf is a pass in its own right so its up to you to decide really

OK thx Carpo. You and Fishman0919 has been a big help. Under Options>CCE Options>Advanced(Expert)Settings, VBR_Passes is already set on 2 (the lowest choice available). So I'm assuming with it set on 2 that would total 3 passes using AutoQMatEnc.

Thanks alot. :) LOL I tried doing a Movie + Menu only today with No Compression (100% Video) just as a test using DVD-RB but I think me external firewire hard drive chocked on me during the 3rd Phase (Rebuild). I got a taskbar popup bubble saying something like a Write failed error with some $'s or something like that and Rebuild shut down. :(

The underflows are being worked on - i have a test version where i only had 2 underflows over the entire dvd, the overflows are normal its just a working saying there could be an overflow and is norm fixed in the 2nd pass

You can change all the adjust_q_matrix=0 to adjust_q_matrix=1 in the dvd-rb REBUILDER.ECL (the item.ecl is just for the 1 segment being encoded) with notepad and that will work but you got to run dvd-rb in 3-click mode.

Like Carpo said the underflows are norm for the 1st pass and 99% if not all of them will be fixed in the 2nd pass.... I like doing at lease 3 passes with AQE now to help with sizing.

P.S.: For Animation movies edit the REBUILDER.ECL and change all the h_filter=0 to h_filter=1... it a built in setting to help with quality with Animation, it also can help with the sizing.

Yes but DVD-RB free ver puts adjust_q_matrix=0 in the ecl files... that shuts qmatop off......use CCE SP Trail, the ecl file is a little diff between CCE SP and CCE SP Trial.

WOW! I gotta say this. After all the DVD editing guides 2COOL has written (many I've learned from), and seeing that he's asking these question. I now don't feel so bad having to ask the same questions the past few days as a newcomer to DVD-RB Pro and encodeing with AutoQMatEnc. Although he'll robably grasp this quicker than I. ;) LOL, just today I finally figured out the ECL file is created in D2VAVS folder during Phase I (Prepare). Had no idea where the heck it was hiding. :D

Yes, Target Perceptual Error is DCTune2.0 % of error with the Optimizied matrix for the GOP being processed at the max compresstion with the given bitrate ... Warning, QMAT_SHIFT is larger than 21, overflow possible...that is norm and it's just AQE adjusting the matrix.

No, that sounds about right.. I'm running a AMD 64 3700+ OC and with QmatOp on it's about a 5-6 hr encoding process... without QmatOp on AQE is about the same speed as QuEnc

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh! I for some reason was thinking along the lines of 2 to 2 1/2 hour process. I asume QmatOp is on. Although thinking back on my couple uses of TmpgEnc, it took atleast 4 to 7 hours encoding vid clips to mpeg2 for dvd authoring. I'm running P4-M, 2.2Ghz, 500mb ram.
