View Full Version : AutoQMatEnc - a new free MPEG2 encoder

Here is a ECL created with AutoQ 1.5.9 for CCE 2.70.02.00. If You need help with this give me a PM. I can code a ECL-Creator if this will help some guys here. For 2.5X, 2.6X and 2.7X.
Given the syntax of this ECL file...I would say that's better to use an older syntax for the ECL files...I mean 2.5X or 2.6X....About a GUI, don't you think that ECLCCE with CCE SP Trial is enough ??? Your proposition ia really appreciated, I'm just wondering if people would use another GUI ?!
Maybe we could set a poll ?!?

AQM is a feature of CCE 2.70. ECLCCE and CCE SP Trial is good, but the trial is only working for 30 days. Then it won't work. Ok in 30 Days You can get into the ECL-File and learn how to work with it, but if You have a ECL-Creator for all the ECL-Formats You can use AQE independend. A GUI which has all Options sorted might be easier for beginners.
So AQE only supports ECL 2.5X and ECL 2.6X with AQM added, which is not in the normal ECL. When do You think to support ECL 2.7X?
Here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=96256) we go for the Poll.

Frankly I don't know..initially I coded this encoder for DVDRB....So I was not planning to support something else than the ECL files generated by DVDRB....but things are changing ! :)
Thx for the poll...we'll see....

A bonus feature to this program. I've only done small tests with some avi files I have, but had very nice results converting them to dvd using HC 0.15 incorporating a custom matrix made using the values contained in the xxxx.mpv text file created by AutoQMatEnc. To bad it didn't generate the .mtx file. hint :D

CCEAQM=1 must be set in the [OPTIONS] section.....it will solve your issue for all cells :)
About the undersizing, how many passes ?? what movie ?? I highly recommend 3 passes for sizing reasons.....
Well, sorry to say it, but putting CCEAQM=1 in the [OPTIONS] section didn't work as well. Maybe it is DVD-RB fault, maybe it is mine, I don't know.
I used Rockas' installer to instal the RB and during the installation pointed to CCE 2.70 Trial and AutoQMatEnc folder. With first start I corrected the .exe name in the Settings of RB, so this seems correct to me.
I used dirty hack to encode with adjusted matrix, replacing all adjust_q_matrix=0 in the rebuilder.ecl with ...=1. It is still running :) .
To answer your questions - it was 2 passes, Pal DVD (Constantine, R2).

HalfD1=0000
DynamicBitrate=1
NoWarn=1
OneClick=1

........
You DON'T have to rename anything....just select AutoQMatEnc.exe instead of CCE SP !

This is exactly what I have in the ini. CCEAQM=1 make no difference.

In fact this is what I made.
The encoder is working no problem. Only CCEAQM=1 somehow doesn't affect generated .ecl files. With it or without it in the .ecl I have adjust_q_matrix=0.

Other info :
Next version will have a 1-pass implementation (based on the OPV parameters) + Tweaking of the ultra low bitrates < 1000

Anyway, let's stop this discussion right here... :
- I removed the GPL licence file
- I don't plan to release the sources until a certain time
Hmm, I see.
So SAPSTAR doesn't want to use GPL on his tools any longer...
But that's not that easy as it seems.
He has to release the code for the versions that were distributed with the GPL license on them.
I'll wait for his answer :)
Thanks

Wow... it never ceases to amaze me how many pushy people there are clamouring for the source. The poor guy has already repeatedly said that this is jsut a pet project he wanted to do for the good of the scene and the benefit of a learning expirience. Also he's said that teh code would eventually be released, but is far too muddled to of much use to anyone in it's current state. He's a coder, not a lawyer. Cut him some slack guys. ^_^
This is not a flame or anything, just my 2 cents.

Not necessarily.. it only has to be provided upon request.. you can even charge a fee for that to cover your time/expenses.
But I'm wondering, since the license is there, is the software actually GPL'ed?

I think you should/maybe could wait being that if you really need/want to see it... it could cost you some amount SAPSTAR see fit to change you. And the most fun part ...I think... is DCTune2.0 and you would need to talk to NASA for that source. :D

@all,
I came here politely and I said how nice this tool is.
I never intended to upset anyone.
English is not my native language and that's what probably is making so many people angry.
In fact where you read "I want" you should obviously read "I would like".
So much for language issues.
The truth is I could say "I want" because I'm entitled to do so.
Anybody that has ever read the license by which SAPSTAR released his tool will easilly understand what I mean.
@SAPSTAR,
This time I want to ask it properly: would you let me see the sources, pls ;).

@Axlemar,
I have just asked SAPSTAR again and in a politely way for the sources.
So, I'll patiently wait for SAPSTAR's reply.
It is my right to ask him, always in a poletely way, for his sources since it was first released under GPL - as a mistake or not it was.
Talking about mistakes, there have been other such mistakes in the past and right here at the forum.
And we know how they ended up.
At least I know because I've read it for instance here,
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=480383#post480383.
It's a very long thread with 8 pages.
Anyway for those in doubt if I am wrong or right, please read Doom9's moderator's posts in that thread.
There are no doubts that it is my right to ask for the sources even if it was a mistake from SAPSTAR.
Of course he is intitled to release them or not, but just for the new releases where such license doesn't rule any longer.
But I'm talking about the earlier releases.
It's not such a big deal.
We're all aware that when we make a mistake, like using the wrong license, we have to face the consequences.
I feel sorry for SAPSTAR if that is really the case, but apparently he's using an automatic matrix system and I would like to see how he implemented it.
No way I want to rip his work and if I ever code anything with it, it will always be under GPL as it is meant to be.
I'll even quote his name.
Thanks

Sorry but no can do: that's up to SAPSTAR to reply after I have replied him last time.
Or do we stand before a group of developpers instead of just SAPSTAR?
If that's the case then I ask the others here for the sources too because I am entitled to do so!
Otherwise use the links I just posted before.
They're from a Doom9's thread.
You'll find almost all the greatest developpers from Doom9.org enforcing GPL and saying that ignorance does not make you unliable.
But since I sense that SAPSTAR is the only developper, I'll wait for his reply.
I'm quite sure SAPSTAR is a reasonable person that wants to enforce GPL and Open Source Software and that he will release the sources.
Of course I'm not asking for today, I'm sure we can make a deal on timings too.

Actually that's what I am asking: early releases that are still under GPL.
As said it's sad that you didn't keep a copy of them.
Most of us, including myself, are not professional developpers.
But we have to play safe when we choose the licensing for our tools.
There are plenty of licenses out there that would keep the code for yourself and the binaries free for others.
And I'm really thinking about closing this thread to open a new one. The subject is AQE, and we have a ping-pong between people, because some want to see the sources....I wonder why they want it so much by the way ?!?!!?

I want to thank Sapstar for his encoder. I have just recently tried it and must say the quality is pretty good. The only downside I see is the encode times. My computer ran 19 hours encoding a 7.9 gig DVD. I have an AMD 64 3200 with a gig of ram. I must admit that is a little long but again the quality was good.
I hope you keep up the work. I look forward to using both AutoQMatEnc and HC in the future.
PS... I kinda hope this brings the focus back to the program... where it should be.

Did you use 3 pass VBR ? If so, then you've in fact 4 pass to encoding (one "0 pass" where QMatOP runs in each GOP generating optimal qmatrices, being the final qmatrix a average - if I'm not wrong is that!!)
I did present above results for a full encoding (one movie only project) and the computational time was about 15 hours (1 + 2 Pass VBR) in my AthlonXP+ 2500 (Barthon Core) with 768 MB of ram. Like says "john3voltas" (hei, this a brazilian pun, lol) quality sometimes has a coast and it's worth of this one.

If I remember correctly it was 1+3. I agree if you want quality you sometimes have to wait. If Sapstar is able to keep the quality and increase the speed his encoder could turn a few heads. Its already turned mine.
I want to go on record as saying I am not in any way trying to throw stones at the encoder. Just offering my experiences with it. It is a really good encoder.

well its SAPSTARs decision but i think a couple of things should be made absolutly clear after his last post.
first, he was not pushed in anyway to stop this project in any way. if you look at the thread i gave the link to it gave the ways he could comply with the LGPL license, which included a way he didnt have to release his source code if he didnt want to.
second
the intentions of certain persons not so clear (I'm not to make any money with my encoder nor anybody else)
it was never about money and it was never mentioned as such, it is also no reason to be allowed to ignore the license anyway. as for intentions well i can comment on Mean and my reasons i feel. SAPSTAR says this on the first page
I even used a regular libavcodec...but I tweaked it with my own using the rc_eq/rc_override feature
now of course Mean and i would be interested to see exactly how he tweaked it since we work on projects that also use libavcodec, Avidemux for Mean and QuEnc for me, thats one of the advantages of open source software..sharing knowledge and not reinventing the wheel. however since i also said how he can comply with the license without releasing his source we would never see that anyway. so atleast from me it is simply following the license and nothing nasty or sinister. also note that Mean and i only posted on the first page(until this last section) about this and didnt keep pushing it so(again) SAPSTAR has in no way been bullied in to this by us.
I just wanted to share a bit of work of mine...that's becoming too complicated
I'm fed up with that, it was supposed to be fun, it's not
if people bother to read the thread i linked to before you will see i said how SAPSTAR can easily follow the license, if following those options is too complicated or not fun then that his his decision to make. it does not mean the license can just be ignored for those reasons though.
so i am sad to see SAPSTAR has chosen to react this way but (again) it was his decision to make.

Please, if you're going to release some information from a PM then post the whole PM so that everybody has access to all that has been said!
If you don't post it, I will.
For what it's worth, and for everybody else that has read your previous post it was you who sent me a PM in the 1st place.
I simply replied.
Thanks

If you don't post it, I will.I'd have to check the laws in the country the server is located but generally that is a bad idea.. releasing private exchanged in public without the consent of all participating parties is against the law in various countries.

I usually don't like to repeat myself, but please try to calm down mates.
It's sad that things get out of hand like this, this sure isn't necessary. Please try to ignore flaming PMs, SAPSTAR. dragongodz, please don't get upset as well. Let's behave like adults. We had such situations before and they sometimes ended well, sometimes they did not.
Just remember who you're talking to - is that person accusing you of something helping in any way? Did he/she do something for the (open source) community? If not, don't let your feelings get touched. I often saw people trying to somehow "pimp up their lifes" by trying to destroy other people's work.
I hope I'm helping here.
Cheers
Koepi

@Doom9,
I don't recall giving any consent to SAPSTAR for posting some information of some PMs I exchanged with him.
But he did it anyway.
And I can't see you, Doom9, telling SAPSTAR to hold that information for himself because of any legalities.
I know he didn't make it very much specific as wether it had been me or anybody else, but with his words some have started "accusing" me without knowing anything in depth of what was exchanged over the PMs.
All I can see is that many have started to make small but deep remarks only because SAPSTAR used the magic word "court" in his post.
I assume it is a word used on our PM exchange but that doesn't mean it was used the way many people seem to be already imagining.
So, using SAPSTAR own method, maybe I can post some more info about some PMs and forget to mention who were the parties involved!
Then maybe it won't represent any legal problems; what do you think?
BTW, if you look at Koepi's latest post you can see that this follows a pattern.
Flaming PMs? I never started any PM exchange. SAPSTORM did!
And I never flamed noone over those PMs. In fact if someone flamed anybody, it was SAPSTAR as you could easily imagine by the way he has been addressing to me here in the forum.
Sad but true.
Thanks

To end the story, yep I said the word "court", which was among the threat I had...and by the way, I never said in any posts who was sending those PMs. :devil: and I never quoted or pasted any PMs I received...I only mentioned them..anyway, as the AQE story is now over, I propose to the moderators to close this thread...it's useless to use space for it on the servers now......
