Newbie question

Is there any simple and fast way to modify DVD subtitles, (ex: change font, size, etc)? If not what guide should be used? :thanks:

Existing DVD subtitles (bitmap subtitles in a SUP file) can be altered to a certain degree with SubtitleCreator (the Manipulate SUP files tool in the Tools menu). You can change the vertical position and the colour mapping of the subtitles. As the bitmap subtitles consist of graphics/images, and not text characters, you cannot change the font size, font face, formatting etc.

However, SubtitleCreator lets you change the settings you mention when "converting" text subtitles to bitmap subtitles/SUP file... So if you already have the subtitles in a text .srt file, you're all set.

If it's very important for you to change the font face, font size etc. of existing bitmap subtitles from a DVD, you'll have to rip the subtitles to text format (.srt) using SubRip or a similar program, and then create the bitmap subtitles with the desired settings using SubtitleCreator.

Sorry but i never used the SubtitleCreator, so what I have to do?

Decrypt the movie to disc.

Rip the subtiles with Subrip.

Create a SUP file with SubtitleCreator?

How do I insert the SUP file in the movie to replace the original subtitles?

There's a good guide on how to add subtitles to a DVD supplied with SubtitleCreator (.pdf file in the Documentation folder).

Basically, what you need to do is this:

1. Copy the DVD files (vob/ifo/bup) to your harddisk using DVDDecrypter (R.I.P.) or DVDShrink (no compression, just 1:1 copy in order to decrypt the DVD)

2. Demux the video/audio/subtitle streams of main movie using PgcDemux (remember to also save the celltimes.txt file)

3. Create a SUP file out of your text subtitles, using SubtitleCreator. If you want to keep any subtitles from the original DVD, make sure to use the colour table from the main movie PGC on the original DVD (load IFO file into SC)

4. Mux the video/audio streams together with your new subtitles+any original subtitle streams you want to keep, using MuxMan.

5a. If you just want the main movie (no menus etc. from original DVD) and if you reused the subtitle colour table from the original DVD in step 3, you have to copy the colours for the original main movie PGC (on the original DVD) to the newly authored DVD (from step 4), using PgcEdit.

5b. Alternatively, if you want to keep the menus etc. of the original DVD, you can do this with VobBlanker: Open the original DVD (harddisk files) in VobBlanker and select the PGC with the main movie. Click Replace PGC and select the IFO for the newly muxed DVD from step 4.

Thanks CoNS. I just want to make a 1:1 backup copy of my Lord of the Rings trilogy, but the first movie, FOTR, has the subtitles too big. The others are OK. I thought it could be an easy way to do it but it seems that there isn't. Thanks anyway.
