I have some anime in mkv containers that use realtime karaoke effects. When I play these the video intermittently gets stuck then moves on for a few seconds and eventually crashes any player. Uninstalling vobsub and the video plays back smoothly but of course no subs. Also disabling karaoke by enabling prebuffer in vobsub seems to stop the crashes but I lose the nice realtime karaoke effects.
The mkv's video is encoded in H.264 played back by ffdshow 04/06/05 build.
I also tried on another PC and it also crashes in a similar fashion. Both crashes point towards libavcodec.dll being the problem. I want to try with another H.264 decoder but none play H.264 in mkv except ffdshow. Videosoft and Moonlight H.264 decoders seem to ignore it completely. I cannot even demux the video to test it that way as VirtualDubMod does not understand the video stream.
Here is the error if it helps
