removing subtitles

hello

i have this problem, when my friends back up a copy of there dvd's they always play with the subtitles set to on as default. what app would i need to reset this to off? is a total strip needed or can i use ifoedit to edit the ifo files? i'm using a mac, so was just wondering how hard can it be, is it worth installing vpc7 and doing it my self, or could i just email my ifo files to someone who could do it for me asap. its doing my head in now :)
