fix subtitles (srt)

I came across some badly mastered subtitles.

After ripping with SubRip the srt file looks like this:

A subtitle is shown for 0.2 sec and then again and again and again till the end of the display duration.
I end up with over 5000 subtitles lines.:(

I could just erase the repeated subtitles and fix the timings.
Quite exhausting, doing it manually.
Is there a way to join/fix the subtitles lines automatically ?
Or is there an option to correct it during the ripping proccess?

Load the thing in subtitle workshop, highlight all the subs to be merged , hit CTRL+K (combine). :)

(for 5000 lines, highlight the first one, scroll down to last one, and hit SHIFT+mouseclick...just in case you don't know it :D)

edit: actually this won't work as it will repeat the line over and over...let me think for a lazy way)

I have similar problem when I use AviSubDetector to "rip" some subtitles from an AVI, in Manual Mode.

I mean: ASD can recognize the subtitles, but they repeat many times the same dialogue until move to another one.

In some cases, the same subtitle repeat itself for 9 times !!! :eek:

I could edit all of them when I had finished the OCR / Manual process, using WordPad or Subtitle Workshop, for example. And correcting the wrong/repeated times after that.

But, it will be very boring, repetitive and hard to be done.

There is no other way to correct some similar situations in automatic mode? Or, at least, in easier way? :)

If someone find the answer, I will be very grateful too. :)

today a new beta version of subrip was released, and apparently it may fix the duplicated subtitle issue. If you want to test it on your subtitles,and if it applies.

Not sure if it'll fix that but try loading the subs on Media subtitler http://www.divxland.org/subtitler.htm

In subrip I put the same sub tolerance up to 600 and, this way, i don't have repeated lines.

SubRip only removes duplicates when using it to rip subs from hardsubbed videos. For regular .idx/.sub files, this option is not enforced. I may add it as a postporcessing step, if needed.
