Editing .SRT Subs

I have a .SRT subtitle file that I want to edit. Can I do this just in Notepad? I just want to alter some of the lengths that some subs show, and also correct a few spelling errors.

Yes, you can use Notepad (why you simply didn't try?). But it's more comfortable to use a tool like Substation Alpha, Subtitle Workshop or Subrec Sync to do that.

I'd recommend Subtitle Workshop, it has a spelling checker in it you can use. Ntepad will work, after all an srt file is basically just text.

Agreed, subtitle workshop is the nicest tool to edit text files (as it lets you preview the movie in real time too, and has a ton and a half of error corrections available). You might think it doesn't take long, but wait until you've tried to correct a full movie script :D line by line.

Notepad can be faster sometimes, if there's one spelling error or something, but if for example you change the timestamps manually (which is perfectly fine by the way) you may realize you get overlapping times and so on. Subtitles apps take care of this sort of stuff themselves, thereby making your life easier :)
