tried to encode hunt for red october
video encoded (xvid 1.0.3) without audio ->plays fine
audio encoded (he-aac 5.1 streaming) muxed with video into mkv stream -> plays fine
tried to mux subs for scenes with russian language -> movie won't play
video without audio + muxed/external subs -> won't play

all my other encoded movies + subs work fine

also tried other language streams, it still won't work

anyone has an idea? thanks in advance :)

Try to mux totally different subs maybe? does it play?
The fact that your subtitles won't even work as external leads me to think they might be damaged somehow; or you could try and install vsfilter 2.36 off sourceforge maybe. Right now I can't really think of something

ok, i tried some subs from another movie (a bit shorter than this one, so this shouldn't be a problem) but it won't play either

vsfilter shouldn't be the problem since all other subs on any other movie play just fine

Maybe host a little sample somewhere? of the mkv

i could send you one via e-mail if that's ok with you (with all streams multiplexed into mkv already or the single streams you can mux yourself?)
i don't have any webspace or sth like that where i could host it

Did U use the same settings for all subs?

I'm just back from work, I haven't looked into it really yet, but it plays here no problem. does your sample play back on your system, or not? (it could be a full movie issue)
I used TCMP + Haali splitter
I'll try other stuff later
I'll put the sample up later for upload if someone else wants to tinker with it as well

i doesn't play back, whether this sample nor the full movie
i use bsplayer for playback, haali media splitter too...as soon as i put the subs into the container/to the avi as external sub i only can scroll, but no playback anymore

This is most curious, as it plays flawlessly here.
Any chance you can render it in graphedit, and post a screenshot(imageshack.us)? one for a playing file and one for this one?

I haven't reinstalled BSplayer, care yourself to try with another player, if only wmp 6.4 (mplayer2)?
It's obviously something on your system.
Curious all the same, as you say all the other files you made play, with the same codecs and format

PS: I'd upgrade vsfilter all the same, it costs you nothing really

edit: i've hosted the sample (http://c.1asphost.com/niaomalley/Jagd%20auf%20Roter%20Oktober-001.mkv)

I'll post a screenshot of "Roter Oktober" which won't play :(
and one of "Der Herr der Ringe - Die Gefährten" (which has same video/audio codec settings, chapters and vobsubs ripped/muxed with the same program [MKVMerge] as in "Roter Oktober")

vsfilter.dll should be up-to-date (got the newest one from scourgeforce)

What haali's splitter do you have?
I see the sub files are first in the merge box, are they always first?
I have 17/04 myself (including " a few parsing fixes" whatever they are), latest is 19/04

OK, I've uploaded 2 graphedit screenshots (as mentioned earlier)

I use the newest haali-splitter (just downloadad today)

Damn. I don't know. just tried 19/04 and it still plays. This doesn't make sense at all. I use ffdshow to decode, is all I can think about now

perhaps i should just rip & encode all of it again...

strange, never experienced sth like that, but thanks for your help, niamh
