Hi,

I have a couple of MKV files with subtitles in them (SRT, UTF-8). Is there a way to extract the subtitles? - so that I could have them as a separate SRT file again?

I tried with MKVmerge GUI: I loaded the MKV file, unchecked all tracks (audio, video, other subs) except the one subtitle track I want extracted. Then I set the name of the output file to <something>.srt and let it mux. What I got was a messy file with the sub texts in it, but not usable in any way as srt.

Is there a special trick to extract the subs from MKV?

Thanks,

Erynnis.

MKVExtract with the MKVExtractGUI (search at New A/V Formats - Containers)

Thanks, that helped a lot.

I only was not able to download the latest version of MKVextractGUI (1.5.3.1.7z). The file seems to be neither a zip nor an executable. So I got the (1.5.2) the zip of which was directly linked in the thread.

.7z is a zip file alright, you need 7zip (free) to unzip it is all :)
1.5.2 should do the job though, not to worry.
