I am curious how to get these files from a .MKV file and convert them to .srt. I have searched the forums and can't seem to find the answer. I have tried using MKVExtract MKVToolnix AVI-MUX Gui and those programs wont recognize S_Vobsub formats and skips them on extract or just extracts them into another .MKV container.

Once I get them extracted and converted I plan on hard burning them into .AVI with TMPEgnc and FFshow.

I just cant seem to find a program to extract them and its driving me buggy

Can anyone help?? Thanks

As someone pointed out to me yesterday, mkvtoolnix 1.4.0 and up does extract them. Use mkvextract for that, read the help file to get an idea how to use it, and extract to a .sub file, and the idx will be extracted alongside too :)

Try MKVextractGUI (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=73819&highlight=mkvextract) with the last version of MKVtoolnix.
.idx/.sub files demuxed can be mux in a new Matroska container.

I am afraid I have bad news for you, as it's now been proven that the extracted sub/idx can only be used to be remuxed into another mkv, and are impossible to OCR most of the time. If you're lucky, like I was yesterday, you may be able to salvage one language out of the lot...
Look here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=92199) please :)

You would be better off looking for alternative aubtitles for your video, I don't know if it is allowable to post this site link, but we'll find out!

OK Thanks. I guess I am screwed then. I was planning making a DVD with this file and I wanted to remove the english language dubs and hardburn the subs into my videofile. I haven't learned how to make options on DVD's yet for ,ultiple languages and subtitles yet. Guess that aint gonna happen then. Thanks for all the replies
