Subtitles On Episodic DVDs

A friend of mine is using 'Subtitle Workshop' to rip the subs off of these TV (episodic) dvds, but wants to know how to figure out which subs to choose per episode? He's doing DVD to XviD conversion w/ hard-coded subs.

I am unfamiliar with Subtitle Workshop myself... is there an option to split the subs up per episode?

im a newbie myself in the world of dvd\subtitles so i might be wrong on this!
you cant rip subtitles from dvd with subtitle workshop. SW only edits and converts subtitles.
you need to download subrip and before start ripping the subtitles you need to decrypt the dvd with dvd decrypter to your hard drive and then rip the subtitles, or do a on "the fly subtitle rip" using anydvd and subrip together

if its an episodic dvd the subtitles will be created by episode, you will need to do the ripping episode by episode
