VirtualDub TextSub.vdf Error

I'm trying to take a .srt file and put it into the matching .avi file using VirtualDub with the TextSub plugin. This is the error I get when I try to open the TextSub.vdf file in the plugin option screen:
VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.1 - [Aoi Haru.avi]: VirtualDubMod.exe - Bad Image
The application or DLL C:\Program Files\Gabest\VobSub\textsub.vdf is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.
This is followed by:
Filter load error
Cannot load filter module "C:\Program\Files\Gabest\VobSub\textsub.vdf": %1 is not a valid Win32 application.

I am following the FAQ provided here (http://divxstation.com/article.asp?aId=100) If anyone can help please do. I have searched Doom9 for other related threads and haven't found any. What the FAQ shows seems to be the easiest way for me to hardsub my avi. I'm new at this, and the FAQ has been one of the easier for me to follow so I'd really like it if someone could help me out.

I'm guessing you are trying to open the file TextSub.vdf.
You are supposed to select "TextSub" from the "Add Filter" dialog, not to open TextSub.vdf directly.

When you installed VobSub 2.23, you were asked to specify the folder where VirtualDubMod resides, right? If not, reinstall VobSub 2.23.

Then, to load the Textsub.vdf,
(1) Hit Ctrl+F in VDM
(2) Click Add
(3) Select TextSub 2.23

I have already tried that. What happens is that the TextSub does not come up on the plugin options screen. It's when I enter the plugin screen then go to add when this error comes up, I apologize for not saying that earlier. After I get to the plugin options I go to add from that screen I go to the VobSub folder which has my textsub.vdf file in it. When I try to 'add' that file to the plugin list is when the error I stated before comes up. I have also gone through all those steps but put the textsub.vdf file into the same folder I have VirtualDub. Again, even when I try to open the textsub.vdf file from the VirtualDub folder the same error comes up. Sorry for not making that clearer in my original post.

1. Check the CRC:
VobSub_2.23.exe CB04CD86
VirtualDubMod.exe 7CA89D71
plugins\textsub.vdf 045BC7FF (for Windows 2000/XP)

2. Uninstal everything related.

3. When Installing VobSub_2.23.exe make sure you check "TextSub for VirtualDub..." and when you see the "Sellect VirtualDub Install Dir" box, click [...] and select the directory where you have VirtualDub(Mod).exe.

4. Make sure you have textsub.vdf in the subfolder called "plugins" after the step 3. For instance if you had X:\path\VirtualDubMod.exe then you would have X:\path\plugins\textsub.vdf

5. If you are absolutely sure that you are doing the steps 1 - 4 correctly, you might want to reinstall your OS.

I have installed as well as uninstalled VirtualDub 1.6.4 along with 1.5.10. Both times I have not had a 'plugins' subfolder located within my VirtaulDub folder. Each of them, though, has had a full list of working plugins. Is there a particular version VirtualDub someone can suggest to me that has both had a 'plugins' subfolder within the VirtualDub directory and works properly with the TextSub plugin. Before I forget, I have added a 'plugins' folder each time I properly installed my versions of VirtualDub to see if that helped. Sadly enough, it did not. Along with that I have installed TextSub into the VirtualDub folder when prompted to during the VobSub installation. Again, the same error came about. Thanks for your input, if it really has come down to re-installing my OS then I think I won't being using TextSub anytime soon.

I am aware as to how I unzip things. Like I said, for some reason my two versions of VirtualDub did not have a plugins subfolder. And thank you for the links to other versions.
