Change timing of subtitles in the middle?

I have added subtitles to an avi movie and the subtitles are in sync all the way to the middle then it goes off. Is there an easy way to do this, as im a newbie. Thanks in advance.

I'd say there are a couple of ways to do it without getting grey hair, but first will you tell me if you have a txt subtitle or a idx/sub, and is the desync sudden and constant, or is it gradual?

its a .srt file and it happens all of a sudden like theres about 9seconds delay. i think once i pull the subs back 9 seconds after the hour mark it might be fine but i don't knnow. Thanks

Ok, this makes it easier. Piece of cake :)
Get subtitle workshop, load your faulty subtitle file in it (file>open or drag and drop). Load your avi in the movie preview box (movie>open or drag and drop)

--Note: I hope you haven't hardcoded the subtitles in the movie, because in this case there is nothing we can do.

Anyway,
Run the preview up to the point where the synch goes.
Highlight the first subtitle that's out of synch. This sub being highlighted, re-run the preview up to the point where the person that speaks this sub starts talking.
At this moment, press the little S button that's to the middle right of the window (a pop-up says add video/subtitle synchronization point). If you miss, re-highlight the subtitle, and rewind the preview, until you get it right. No big deal.

An "advanced" window will pop up.It will show the line number, the old time, and the new time. All fine.
At the bottom of that window, you have 3 selections. It's defaulted to "extrapolate". Make sure you select "return original times(no change)". Touch nothing else and leave that window to the side for now.

Now go to your last subtitle line, highlight it. Run the preview until you get to the last sentence, and do the same again, press the S button when the person starts talking.
This will add a second line to the advanced window i.e. the new time of the last subtitle line.
When this is done, click "Adjust!" in the advanced window
Now you're all fixed.
You can preview this new file a bit to make sure it is correct(it should be without a doubt),save your new subs and enjoy :)
