Hey len0x, Just curios. Can AutoGK AVI Input currently process Vfapi Frameserver AVI's? I am at school now, I will check it when I come home and give a detailed report here...

Let me answer my own question, using Vfapi Converter and a basic avs script I was able to convert high-definiton(wmv) video with AutoGK! Thank you for the great tool, I think these new features will be very useful for newbies in the future... :)

Can those having problems with duration detection download a utility called AVIMaster from here (http://www.thozie.de/avimaster) and post here parsing log produced by it (only header though, i.e. info about "AVI Header List" and "AVI Stream List #1")
P.S. use command line like this: "AVIMaster.exe aviname.avi > output.txt"

Still seems to show wrong length in "'avih' (56): AVI Main Header", but gives correct length in "'strh' (56): AVI StreamHeader":

We're getting somewhere! If everyone else that has this issue can confirm that stream info always has correct length (as opposed to AVI header) then I know how to fix that in MediaInfo sources. Unfortunately I only have lib sources and not CLI, so I would have to contact the author (who can benefit from my patch anyway).

Yeah, but the only result I want at this point is a proof that stream info always contains correct length, that's it. I already hacked mediainfo to produce desired info.

Tried another "big" (in terms of AVI-size) DV-AVI (this time encoded from MPEG DVB-S Stream with Panasonic DV-Codec). AGK and Media Info show wrong length, AVI-Master gives correct length in AVI StreamHeader.
[Edit] same with a "big" fresh encoded Huffyuv-AVI, AVI StreamHeader is correct, AVI Main Header is wrong...

Conclusion of tests so far:
- Xvids produced from DVD source in Autogk report right in avimaster.
- Xvids produced from mjpeg captures in VDub report right.
- Mjpeg captures (picvideo)(which I'd like to encode in AGK) report wrong.
- Captures straight to Xvid report wrong.

I used Virtualdub to save as a wav and then use this command with lame:
lame --abr 192 d:\leftofdial.wav and d:\leftofdial.mp3
Lame encode the file without any errors.
I'm going to try again with Autogk
thanks for the help

try this options (that AutoGK is using): -h --alt-preset 192

I'm trying running the file through autogk again.
Its still running, but I looked at the log and it has a file size for the audio approx. the same size as the audio file I created manually. I have to go back to work, but I think Autogk will work this time.
Hi Len0x!
Some time ago I ripped a dvd with AutoGK. I don't remember what version I used. I have 3 standalones with DivX support and chipset MTK. In every player the movies (3 movies) played with big macroblocks.
This is the info for one of them:
Packed bitstream: No
QPel: No
GMC: No
Interlaced: No
Aspect ratio: Square pixels
Quant type: MPEG Custom

As you can see, AutoGK used some custom matrice. I supposed that was the reason that my players didn't play OK.
Tonight I reencoded the movie (Avi input) and this is the info:

I used the latest XviD codec.

@Mtz ..a little offtopic:
You can disable packed bitstream with the MPEG4 Modifier v1.3.2 without re-encoding. But maybe you know this already ;)
Download:http://www.moitah.net/download/latest/MPEG4Modifier.zip
Latest XVid Codec: Beta or Stable Version?
Edit: The Matrix you used was the eqm_v2.matrix.
I don't think the blockiness is because of this matrix.
I've done many encodes with this matrix, no sign of blocks at reasonable bitrate.
And reencoding a blocky encode will only give you more blocks and bad quality.....

AutoGK does NOT use packed bitstream setting. However if you use latest XviD 1.1 (that you should not be using anyway) then DXN HT profile might turn this automatically on (as according to DXN certification only packed bitstream is supported by the hardware) Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I captured several video files from my DV camera and successfully converted them to xvid. But I got stuck with one of them - for some reason AutoGK tries to open it (on second phase, I think) as a mpeg2 file - using Mpeg2Source() instead of DirectShowSource(). I tried to cut a one minute clip from that file - the convertion went fine. Now what do I do?

Well, you're not supposed to have hybrid AVI input, so obviously that part was not tuned for AVIs. You have to enable "force deinterlace for hybrid sources" in hidden options for the time being.

The packed bistream from XviD is (was) not supported by the most standalone DivX players with MTK chipset. Only 2 or 3 players support Packed Bistream and because of this many users need to remove packed bistream using Mpeg 4 modifier as said Taurus. Let's say that is simple to remove it.
But if the movie is with Qpel and GMC (more than 1 warp) the movie must to be reencoded to play OK in this players. Because of your AutoGK, now is simple for that users who want to reencode the movies. But, the output must to be OK for their standalones.
The latest test made with the latest 2.05b beta show to me that again AutoGK used an custom matrix:

Two things:
- have you actually tried encodings of XviD 1.1 beta 2 with DXN HT profile on such players? DXN was working with XviD guys to specifically design those so that its hardware compatible.
- DXN profiles are only used with "bitrate spike control" option enabled, so without it packed stream should not be enabled as AutoGK never sets that option on explicitely.

Even in XviD the Packed Bistream is present, there was no problems in my player. But I think is not OK the output to contain Packed Bistream because this will confuse people. Many of them before burning CD are removing the Packed Bistream
I think the problem in AutoGK is the Custom Matrix.

Why? Custom matrixes are not supported only by ESS chipset, that why you have an option to turn them off.

In the latest XviD codec I pressed first "Default settings". Than I choosed DXN-HT profile. After that I unchecked the "Packed Bistream" option. When analizing the output with Gspot and Mpeg4 Modifier, both of them reported "Packed Bistream". But this file played OK in my DivX player.
The test reported in my previous post was made in only one DivX player (which is good for me) and the movie encoded with AutoGK gave me that ugly picture.
If you want I can test the same files in other 6 standalone divx players. But I think many people have players like mine.

I wanted to make sure I fully understood the process of what AutoGk is doing in the AVI input.
I'm recording the TV program on to my Dish Network PVR. If I want to save the TV show I play the TV show on the PVR capturing in my computer using a happauge capture card using the huffy codec to avi. Then using virtualdub I edit out the commercials. I then save the edited file using direct stream for video and audio. I load the file into AutoGk and it analyses the file and says its progressive.
When I look at the edited file in virtualdub it looks interlaced to me. I see combing.
I'm using AutoGk to convert to divx. Do I need to overide a setting to make AutoGk think the file is interlaced. Or am I worrying about something I should not be worrying about because I'm clueless. :)

E-Boda 555 Ver310FE
E-Boda 555 Ver310FE-CE
Silva Schneider 404

To be honest its the first time I see a report that custom matrixes used by AutoGK cannot be played properly with player on MTK chipset. Can you try encoding with 1.95 and xvid 1.0.3 without ESS support?
P.S. please don't post info about avi files - its useless to me. Just mention if its working ok in your player or not.

I does look interlaced indeed. I will need a small sample of such AVI to examine it close (probably combing threshold detection needs to be tweaked). Can you make it avialable for me, please?

Its XviD 1.1 beta 2 problem then, coz I didn't change XviD settings in AutoGK (I know that beta 2 doesn't signal ASP, but just simple profile and it was fixed in CVS few days after - may be that's the problem - you can try latest celtic_druid build with latest AutoGK).

No problem here, with playing 2.05 beta encodes, in my Philips DVP-720SA(MTK-1389EE)...
Using Xvid, neither ESS compatibility or bitrate spikes control option are enabled...
len0x

The problem may only arise when "bitrate spike control" option is used without ESS option (i.e. DXN HT profile with custom matrixes). In all other cases there shouldn't be any problems.

Gspot says:
The following codec should be capable of processing this format:
--> {Huffyuv v2.1.1}
DirectShow is apparently able to play the file as well (see "DirectShow Render", below),
I switched it to ffdshow and it says interlaced.... I will try with the longer file.
What setting do I need to use if I would like AutoGk to deinterlace it and save it to avi using divx codec?
Thanks
len0x

Deinterlace is done automatically by AutoGK if the source is found interlaced. You can't force it.
