Anyone happen to know what chipset the Samsung DVD-HD870 contains?

Got an Alba RDVD1002 DVD Recorder second-hand from Ebay, and found after a lil digging that it plays MPEG-4 Part 2 discs, however I'm apprehensive to open the recorder to find the chip used. This is a recorder that is about 2 years old I think. Tried 2 previous MPEG-4 with MP3 audio CD encodes (AVI) from my last codec test (around 2005 IIRC), one was 3ivx D4 4.5.1 and the other DivX 5.2.1 Pro. Both played fine, DivX had a screwy output, but that's probably cause I didn't set the PAR in the encoder when I encoded it. I did set it with 3ivx at the time and that played fine, as expected. I'm going to make a CD up with different bitrates and resolutions, and audio settings to determine what the limits are.

Some useful info about the playback part. It has analogue output (and input) only, nothing digital. These are: component output (YPbPr), SCART CVBS and SCART RGB, S-Video, and RCA composite. The rest I gotta figure out unless somebody knows the chip it uses. :D

EDIT: OK, I took the plunge and took the cover off, but before I did, found out that the component output is actually YCbCr, so is that progressive?

Inside, the drive is a 5.25" recorder, from BenQ, model number I can't remember, connected to the mainboard with a 40-pin IDE cable, so there may be some possibility for upgrading. The chip I found is a MediaTek 8105 model, actual chip number MT8105GE. It's an ARM chip, and I'm not sure how these perform with MPEG-4 decoding. Some research later found that the 8105 series is similar to the 1389 series, but any more info on the MT8105's playback formats, specifically the revision I have, would be very helpful. ;)

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Does anyone have any information about the MT8303 chipset ? It's used in my digital picture frame (DMA702) which I would really like to improve (read -> hack my own firmware). To date I've only found some info on an obscure chinese forum http://107636666.qq.topzj.com/viewthread.php?tid=389996 but I'm missing the first part of a rar file posted there. The file name is MT8303_Datasheet V10.part2.rar Does anyone happen to have the part1 of this rar or the whole datasheet ? Of course any details regarding this chip apart from marketing crap may also be useful. Also, if there are any mailing lists/forums/irc channels more appropriate for this kind of questions I'd be happy to hear about them.

Best regards,
