howto get dvd subs over to wmv9

Hi. I have a project at work that needs me to convert a DVD with subs to wmv9 format. Does wmv9 subbort subs? if not how can i get it over to wmv9 in the best way by inburn encoding them?

You can have a look at this WMP guide (http://microsoftusernetwork.com/mcored/knowledgebase/kb-subtitles.htm) ; personally I don't use wmp, but 6.4, so I've never tried nor can troubleshoot you :). This is for external subs.


To burn subs in, I would say you can enter a textsub()or vobsub()line in your avs script, and use MakeAVIS of ffdshow to feed it to WMencoder, which doesn't take avs, but will take avi. (you need to manually select this option while installing ffdshow). Then you should be gold :)
I haven't done it with subs(I don't burn subs in), but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

If you need your video, audio, and subs all in one file, Windows Media supports that too. You have to download their encoder and a "tool kit" or SDK kit, and you will find the program that allows you to write your own subs and mux them into the WMV file.

Be sure to make a copy of your encoded file before you add the subtitles, because I remember having some trouble changing the subs once they were added. This might save you the trouble of encoding twice. It's been so long I don't really remember exactly what the issue was but be forewarned, and keep a copy of your encoded file that which has never had subs added until you are sure you have everything the way you want it then you can erase it of course.

Just activate the subtitles in WMP and they appear just the way they are supposed to. I don't know if that is also "sami" format becasue I made my subs from scratch with the windows program mentioned above and I believe it saved the file with the txt extension.
