Elias, though playback works now the way you want it to, I strongly suggest, that it's time for a clean OS install from scratch.
3ivx worked for me on several different machines so far, its installation is entirely painless.
Same goes for Moonlight demuxer.
Every WinOS user has to "bite the sour apple" (german idiom) from time to time...

And I'm not sure if posting Neros DSF apart from the package is a good idea either. Sorry.

And I'm not sure if posting Neros DSF apart from the package is a good idea either. Sorry. That's what I did before I installed the Nero Parser. I know what the problem was all along now. Apparently, XviD can't decode mp4v, even the one in ffdshow can't. And I had deleted the .ax files after registering them... since I thought they weren't needed after that. But it works now great. Especially after the OS reinstall. By the way, why can't XviD decode mp4v?

XVid can only decode MPEG4 Advanced Simple Profile (ASP) and SP, but NOT AVC, which is also MPEG4

I formatted and re-installed one of my boot drives recently... But instead of installing 3ivx's filters, I just installed Nero Vision Express (with Recode2).

After installation, WMP9/10, ShowTime and MediaPlayer Classic were able to play every variant of the Mpeg4 codec (and 4CC code) I could find... All using NeroDigital's filters!

The only time I encountered any problems was after I installed the XviD and DivX codecs. Because as soon as I did this, I've found I was unable to get NeroDigital's decoder filters to play everything in the same way as before - even after de-registering and completely removing XviD's and DivX's decoder filters.... Shame really!

Cheers Yeah, codecs are known to "b0rk" around when installing/unintstalling them more than once.

If Nero DSF - at least some of them - really check the direct show chain for own company parts being connected (like the ShowTime player) and therefor regulate the filters capabilities as a feedback effect, that sounds to me as a strange manoevre.
I'm not into coding DSFilters I admit, but I doubt that it's a legal action within the framework.
And as your test config is obviously bOrked now as you say, I'd rather tend to blame Nero than the other "suspects" involved.
I myself have installed XVid so many times during the years and it never broke anything in my config...

Maybe, SMD, you should draw attention of the Nero devs like babayaga to this?!

Obviously, when Nero's filters are installed first, all Mpeg4 content will use their filter first. When I installed XviD second, everything that contained XviD's 4CC code was played using XviD's decoder... When I installed DivX third, everything that contained DivX's 4CC code was played using DivX's decoder... Despite the fact that cross compatible 4CC support is "unchecked" in each decoder: -

I guess what I need are XviD and DivX compiles that do not automatically include/install their accompanying DSdec filters... Or an option in NeroDigital to select/over-ride other Mpeg4 manufacturers 4CC codes ;)
