I'm trying to run this in Command Prompt, by typing regsvr32 3ivxDSMediaSplitter.ax, but it's not working. I'm doing this because I don't want the entire 3ivx package, just an mp4 splitter. Any advice?

3ivxDSMediaSplitter.ax requires OpenQuicktimeLib.dll
Do you have it in the same folder with 3ivxDSMediaSplitter.ax or in your system directory?

Here's what WMP 6.4 says:

Unable to download an appropriate decompressor. (Error=80040200)

Unable to download an appropriate decompressor. (Error=80040200)

Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported. (Error=80040265)

your mp4 file doesn't contain avc video, does it?

bond

tick the "allow unsupported decoders" option in the 3ivx splitter

You can install DivX or (recommended) XviD and they will also play most mp4 files (unless you find something encoded with microsoft's mp4 codec, I had a hard time with some of those...)

2) open the 3ivx splitter in graphedit
3) open the 3ivx splitter settings
4) tick the "allow unsupported decoders" option in the 3ivx splitter

All right I did it, but it didn't make any difference :/

update: actually it works now, but not good. MPC closes down all the time, some files don't show up in their original resolution etc.

Have you tried Moonlight ".MP4" dshow Demultiplexer?
I use it in MPC and it works very fine with Nero mp4.

Dino Yes, I've tried it. It works great with Quicktime encoded mp4 files, but it's really buggy with Nero Digital encoded mp4 files. At least for me.

Hi Elias,

Is there any particular reason why you don't want to allow Nero's filters to do your Mpeg4 (SP/ASP/AVC) decoding in all your other direct-show based software players?

Cheers

Cheers Yes. I've decided to completely abandon Nero Digital now. No offence against Nero, they're doing a good job. But I have come to the conclusion that XviD is somewhat better for quality, and it's a LOT more bugfree than Nero Digital. Especially on my computer, where it's bar none 100% bugfree. So, XviD is my main choice for the mp4 container, and as a side effect, the entire Nero Package is now redundant. Therefore, I am looking for a decent mp4 splitter :)

By the way, which one is the mp4 splitter of the Nero filters? Can I install that manually?

I've read somewhere that all Nero filters will reboot your PC when doing manual regsvr

Here's (http://82.2.167.237/Uploaded_Files/Doom9_Forum_files/NeSplitter_(v1.0.2.3).7z) a copy of Nero's current splitter.

However, I'm not sure whether any of Nero's current filters can be installed and run separately nowadays!

All right, now the Nero Media Splitter is installed... but it ain't working with mp4 files :/

update: everything is now uninstalled except the Nero Digital mp4 splitter. Ironically, it's not working good with Nero Digital mp4 files, only with Quicktime mp4 files :) I guess this is one more reason not to use Nero Digital over XviD :D

i dont think you can use neros filters without having actually nero installed...

they prolly wont be too happy about people providing filter only downloads ripped from NeroVision...

following your words it seems to me it does not work :p

An MP4 file is an MP4 file, there isnt such as a thing as "Nero MP4" (that would be bad :) )

and if anything a Nero splitter would certainly open file created by Nero...

@ Elias

Why not to use VLC or Mplayer? They don't need any splitters, decoders, etc. :) And they play everything exellently :) By the way
there is an Mplayer with GUI... It rules ;)

Elias,You cannot blame NeroSplitter here ,as it's a splitter only.Find the "The Right Decoder.ax"
and probably youll'd be cool :)

Ah ...and before "regsvr32 NeroFilter", make a backup of all your data !!! :)))
(Sorry I couldn't resist)

Best Regards!

Best Regards! All right, I've done some serious testing now. The nero splitter doesn't seem to work at all. I can't decode anything with it. I guess I need the entire nero package for it to work. The moonlight splitter works great with with Quicktime mp4 files, but with Nero Digital mp4 files (yes, I'm serious, take it or leave it) it plays back the file, but the picture looks really really weird. Like, lots of block errors. Probably a bug of some sort.

Try opening your file into graphedit to make sure there isn't something faulty with your codecs as the splitter itself doesn't do any decoding.

You don't need Nero Splitter Elias.
NeSplitter is used for mpeg files not for mp4 files. You need Nero Digital Parser (NDParser.ax)
Nero Digital Parser works without having Nero installed.
I never had Nero installed to my laptop but NDParser and ffdshow work fine there.
Nero Video Decoder (NeVideo.ax) and Nero Digital Audio Decoder (NeAudio.ax) don't work without having Nero installed.
There's nothing wrong with your computer,Nero filters will not reboot your PC,you don't need to register, unregister or change any merit.
All you need is NDParser.ax (I think the latest version is 2.0.2.37)
and latest ffdshow.
If you want to use Nero Digital Parser for mov files too you will also need Nero QuickTime(tm) Decoder Wrapper also. It's a filter named as NeQTDec.ax nd its latest version is 1.0.0.4.This filter will also work without having Nero installed.

actually i dont get this whole discussion...

3ivx set up a whole free package of dshow filters totally easy useable for newbies.
why not simply install their package and be happy? their video decoder is in no way worse than any other decoder and you can still use other decoders with the 3ivx splitter after installing the package...

Let's just say that I've had MAJOR issues with 3ivx. It's not stable. Fact is, I installed it recently and everytime I opened an mp4 with MPC, it shuts down or crashes immediately because of 3ivx. So anyway, I've just done a clean format, anyone willing to share the Nero Digital Parser.ax?

But if you had problems playing Mpeg4/SP/ASP encodes in MPC, using 3ivx's filters, it sounds like some of your exising filters may be b0rked!
