View Full Version : Getting widescreen button to highlight

@2COOL: I'll definitely give it a try when I get home from work later today (and I'll send you the ifos in reference to your pm)... This was actually the way I originally thought it should be done when I initially posted in this thread: By changing the cell commands and the cell still time.
However, judging from r0lZ' approach when he first addressed my problem, it sounds like the ifo editing you described won't do it alone as he recommends editing the values in the menu vob with VobEdit?
I'm a bit confused after seeing the different approached from you and r0lZ. Do the menu ifo and the menu vob both have a parallel system of button highlight and still time attributes? How do they work together? In my case, should I combine the two approaces, or should it work with just one of them?
EDIT: Btw, I don't understand your last question?

Oh, yes, I forgot 2COOL's method!
However, the default button will probably not be highlighted.
In fact, in this method, the menu is not modified. Instead, you change the still time to whatever you want, and, when the menu expires, the original command of the button menu is executed via the cell command.
If you want to try this method and highlight the button, then simply change the value of the default highlighted button in the VOB. Do not change the other params.
Another way to highlight the button is to use SetHL_BTN in the pre command area of the menu PGC. Inserting this command as the last pre command generally works, but if there are break or LinkCN commands in the pre commands, that may not work.
If it doesn't work, try inserting the SetHL_BTN as the first pre command. But that will not work if there is another SetHL_BTN command somewhere in the pre commands. Nothing is simple!
Note that in extremely rare circumstances, the 2COOL's method will not work: if the cell with buttons is followed by another cell and if the seamless bit is set for that second cell, the cell command will not be executed, at least on standalones. In this case, you should disable the seamless flag of the second cell (or enable the 'layer break' checkbox).
Take care: the cell commands are executed on some soft players even with the seamless flag set, but are not on Sony standalones.

Ok, big thanks to you both for taking the time to look into it... :) I'll report the result later when I get home.

CoNS didn't thank me....:D
Needless to say, you need 2COOL's JUMP2PGC utility to have your movie end at the language menu page.
Now we know why he is so COOL. :p

IMO, the easier way is to insert a SetHL_BTN command as a new last pre command, if menu is in its own PGC.

If it's in a case where it's within a "multiple cell" menu PGC, I would change all, say linkPGN, to Gotos. In my example below, Program 5 is my language selection or aspect ratio menu.

Yes, but I think, I haven't tested this yet, that the IFO has precedence over the VOB setting. Just like the DAR in the IFO overrides the DAR in the VOB. It seems logical.

Boy, have I been burning some coasters lately (I'm out of DVDRWs!) :D But now it works in my standalone, too! By controlling it all in the ifos without touching the vobs.
So now I've successfully edited my still menus (language selection), but I still need to apply the same timeout feature to the main menus, which are animated.
Now I know how to highlight the button I want, but how do I set the timeout? Let's say that the animated menu plays around 30 secs. (how do I see the exact playback time?) and then loops/restarts, and I want it to timeout after a) 10 seconds, or b) playing through the animation once? The cell still time in this menu is 0, whereas the cell still time in the still menu was 255 (infinite).

Then you can apply your 10 seconds there. I think you may have to ditch the audio though.

I take it that you have successfully achieved your goal, at least with still menus. [EDIT]oops!:o Just read your post again.

Just add a new cell command with your button's command and use this. At the end of cell playing, it should jump you to where you need to go. The still time should still be at 0.

Sorry it took so long, here is your answer to your question back from page 1 of this thread.
The Full Screen button has this command: [71 01 00 03 00 00 04 06] Set gprm(3) =(mov) 0 ; LinkNextPG, button 1 (1024)
Wide Screen button has this command: [71 01 00 03 00 01 04 06] Set gprm(3) =(mov) 1 ; LinkNextPG, button 1 (1024)

Now that you got your commands, try using my guide (http://home.tiscali.be/debie.roland/pgcedit/third_party/2cool/remove_language_aspect_ratio_menus/remove_language_and_aspect_ratio_menus_intro.htm). It should work.
