Hey, when I tried to use drmdbge.exe (527/621) WMP opens, but says inorder to play the file DRM needs to upgraded (f'ing ms!)... plus I'm not online anymore, does that matter? I wish someone would make some kind of all-in-1 gui or something like DVD2SVCD which uses all kinds of diff command line progs, yet it's done through GUI/automated... Seems like everytime one of these DRM hacks comes out there's 10diff sets of conflicting directions, but thanks to all that spent much time attempting these decodes, thanks! :o

I have it working under WinXP Pro with Service Pack 2 and WMP 10, when I'm in WMP I click help/about and it says it's version 10.00.00.3646 to be exact. On another PC in the house WMP gives the same version number (10.00.00.3646) but it doesn't work on that pc. The PC that it works on WMP says there's an update available when I click help/check for player updates... the other pc says there's no updates available for WMP. I assume the update that is available is the one that disables drm2wmv. By the way, I'm using drm2wmv_e.exe and drmdbg621 and nothing else (not even japanese files).

How to remove drm from wmv and wma files (yes it works for protected wma too).

1. Place drm2wmv_e.exe, drmdbg.exe, and whatever.wmv into c:\undrm (if this folder doesn't exist go create it) I like to rename whatever.wmv to 1.wmv (this saves you from typing long filenames later) Now make a new folder inside c:\undrm called drm2

2. Double click drmdbg.exe and wait until it opens WMP, then click file/open and browse to the file that has drm (You need a valid license to play the file, otherwise this won't work!) open the file and a popup window will automatically give you the sid/kid (and it'll be copied to the clipboard automatically) click OK and WMP should automatically close. Now browse to c:\undrm\drm2 and create a text document, open it up and click edit/paste (or Ctrl+V to paste) close it and save changes. Now rename that text document username.key (username being your windows user logon name!) click yes on the popup box.

3. Click start/run type cmd and hit enter.

4. A dos box should open
now type C:\undrm\drm2wmv_e.exe -v C:\undrm\1.wmv

5. Hit enter.

(make sure 1.wmv is the actual filename and c:\undrm\ is the folder the file is actually in (To keep things easy I cut/paste the file to c:\undrm and rename it to 1.wmv this way spaces in the filename don't cause problems and you don't have to type as much).

4. wait until the dos box says 100% then close the dos box and browse to c:\undrm\ and there should be a new file called [NoDRM]-1.wmv <-- this is the new file created without drm.

5. Delete C:\undrm\drm2\username.key

6. repeat all these steps for any other file you want to remove drm from.

BTW, Yes this does work for vh1.com files.

how to fix files that lose seek (fast forward) ability and the activemovie bug.

use windows media encoder (windows media stream editor) and click add source, browse to file, click + to expand and pick the highest quality video/audio streams (put check mark on them) click add, click create file, type a new file name and click save.

If you get the "video buffer is not valid" error message, you can use asfbin GUI v. 0.1 to repair the file.

Here's how to use asfbin, double click asfbinapp.exe click ... (upper right) to browse to the folder the file is in, click ok, click the filename, click <-- to add it, in the bottom left white box tell it where you want to save the new file to and the filename you want it to be (default is out.asf, just type c:\undrm\out.wmv) then click cut/copy/join wait until a dialog box pops up saying "ASF file was successfully created" then click OK and close the program.

Now you can go back to windows media stream editor and try that process again on the repaired file and it shouldn't give you the "video buffer is not valid" error message this time.

Notes:

1. Both windows media stream editor and asfbin can restore seek ability.

2. Windows Media Stream Editor and asfbin DO NOT re-encode anything, they make new files using the exact same streams so no quality is lost at all.

3. asfbin can be found at http://www.radioactivepages.com/
on the left side of the page click "NEW asfbin", scroll to the middle of that page and click Download GUI version 0.1

4. the fastest way to find windows media encoder is to go to google.com and search for windows media encoder.

5. windows media encoder comes with 3 mini-programs - file editor, profile editor, stream editor these can be found in the utilities folder in the start menu that windows media encoder puts there inside the windows media encoder folder. The STREAM EDITOR is the program I referred to earlier.

6. Sometimes wmv files have multiple audio and video streams so that when you (for example) go to vh1.com to play a file and you tell it you're on a 56k modem it'll choose what stream inside the file to play for you. If you choose dsl modem it'll choose a higher quality stream inside the file to stream to you. sometimes there's only 1 REAL video stream and several FAKE video streams but there's always the same amount of audio streams as there is video streams. (example 1 real video stream, 3 fake video streams, and 4 real audio streams) I suppose the file structure requires video streams for each audio stream so if they always stream the real video stream it'll choose which audio stream to send to you based on what speed you choose (dsl, 56k, etc.) I tell you this because with windows media stream editor you can basically choose to remove the lower quality streams and make it a smaller file size by doing so.

7. I don't guarantee this will work for you, so GOOD LUCK.

I have several WMV files with DRM that I downloaded and paid for about a year ago. I remember I got to see one of them, but not the others. Now I tried viewing them, and the license has expired. When I try to get an updated license, it says the page I requested was not found. As a result, I have dead files that no longer work, and I never got to enjoy, even though I paid to download them. I feel like when you download something you pay for, you should be entitled to see it whenever you want to. Microsoft ripped me off, and I'll never again pay to download anything, because I know big brother will only stop me from watching it at my leisure. Too bad the better business bureau doesn't care about this issue, because if they did, I'm sure Microsoft would have alot of angry customers on their tail.

That's the problem with most of these types of Forum threads... instead of 1 or 2 PRECISE break downs on how to use the files, you get hearsy "DO THIS AND THAT but NOT THIS or THAT but WITH THIS etc..." Someone should have made a separate thread for QUESTIONS ONLY and stickied the original Directions thread. But anyhow thanks for the recap! :thanks:

The only reference I have seen to it is on this site. I tried to use Winny but could not get that program to work.

You've got it all wrong. Drmdbg does all the hard work. DRM2WMV simply uses the information provided by drmdbg to unwrap the DRM file.

The new version 'apparently' works with version 10.00.00.3802 in individualization mode.

Hrmm... I'm confused here - but wtf, there SEEMS to be "leakers" from EVERY media domain, be it from gaming, to MS office, to MPAA, to RIAA, to MS O/S's themselves! HOW COME nobody has leaked any kind of CONCRETE anti-DRM source or patch, bug, exploit etc? I mean it would be SO much easier with that kind of small aid Vs having to beg very experienced/knowledgeable users to spend their FREE TIME studying and making these programs etc.... Or is the whole idea of something being able to be leaked that would aid in Anti-DRM not feasible at all? :confused: :angry:

If you don't have taskkill.exe you might need to google it up.

The ping is just a cheap way to make the computer wait. You might need to make it slower. You might be able to make it faster.

Obviously this can be extended to include several repetitions for %2 %3 %4 %5 etc...
Paths need to be YOUR paths.
You can make a shortcut to this batch file in your sendto folder...

Mine works to where I just select a pile of wma files right click and select zapdrm and poof... all better.

If you don't know what this file is... then do some search on dos batch files. I am only posting it since it made my life easier after I wrote it. if you can figure out how to make it work on your machine, cool... if not sorry to be a tease.

I would be delighted if someone could make it better, but so far it works a lot beter than all the by hand dragging.

Well, I'll post my experience

- Under win2K and WMP 9 it works wonders :)
- Under win XP AMD64 and WMP10 drmdbg doesn't do anything at all (version 527 and 621)

With the new batch file this will be better. Thanks to everyone. As comment, with the newest drmdbg (527 and 621) you don't need to perform all the .ini stuff. It works out of the box, so you basically need only 4 steps :)

Has anyone had any luck find a version of drmbg that works with WMP10 and Windows XP SP2?

I guess you could back up a DRM protected video by playing it and using a screen capture tool such as FRAPS to to record it again. You would then have to rencode it. The problem with this is that the resultant quality is less that great and its a major hassle.

UN-DRM WITH WMP 10, rolling back to WMP9, without a fresh win xp install -- works!! Several things needed.

Hi guys. After reading this thread and trying all, I finally got it to work.
I now will tell you what I did.

My Machine:

Windows Xp sp2 with all updates and WMP 10.

Files I used:

What I did:

A) I first copied the original DLLs of winXp as it is said in this post:

Its easy just do this: (copied from the post above from SpaceRat..thanxs SpaceRat!!)

1. Go to C:\WINDOWS\RegisteredPackages\
2. Move the folder {C5B8FBE9-645E-4484-A7AA-E8DA9A70DD77} into an archive (RAR, ZIP, whatever)
3. Go to {C5B8FBE9-645E-4484-A7AA-E8DA9A70DD77}$BACKUP$\System
4. Copy all *.dll files from there to C:\WINDOWS\system32 and C:\Windows\system32\dllcache
5. If step 4 fails due to locked files, just reboot. If it still fails afterwards, boot to safe mode. If even that fails, the recovery console from Windows XP Installation CD boot will work.

Note: I did not have the folder C:\Windows\system32\dllcache, just copied to C:\WINDOWS\system32.-

B) I had WMP 10, and nothing worked. So I rolled back to WMP9. I just went to Add/Remove Programs, be sure to have the option Show Updates Checked.
Find WMP 10 and remove it. This will roll back to WMP9.
Reboot the PC several times, and ensure all is working ok. I had to reboot twice for the normal wmv to be played oki. Another reboot fixed the problem.

C) Then I simply followed the directions in this post (from Ablade Thanxs Ablade!!):

I don't know if this will work for version 10 or other versions, give it a try and post your results.

1) Download all necessary files. A) Put drmv2clt.dll in WMP9 install Folder. Check properties tab for version 9.00.00.3250.

2) Unzip drm2wmv.zip into a folder, I extracted mine in C-Documents and Settings-Owner-Desktop-Programs. Anywhere will be fine. Once extracted, you will get two folders: drm2wmv1241 and drmdbg031.

3) Go into drmdbg031 and double click drmdbg.ini. This is how the first 12 lines should look like:

5) Extract the file drmdbg527.zip somewhere, copy the drmdbg.exe, and paste it in the drmdbg031 folder. It should replace the old drmdbg.exe.

6) Now extract the file drm2wmv_e.zip into the folder drm2wmv1241. In the drm2wmv1241 folder(which also contain folders drm1 and drm2), place drm2wmv_e.exe (and delete all the other files.except drm1 and drm2 of course-!You might not need to do this, I didn't)

7) Now run the drmdbg.exe, which is in the folder of drmdgb031. It'll open WMP, go to File and Open your protected DRM movie. Now WMP will search for the licence (if outside u.s use a public proxy from http://www.publicproxyservers.com/page1.html). Getting the licences may take some time and
may require some patches which WMP9 might prompt u for(thankfully didnt take more than few moments for me). Once you have acquired the licence,
you will get a msg box with the sid and kid codes and also saying its been copied to the clipboard. (You may need to click 'Play' inorder to get this message box). Msgbox has a heading of: Drmdbg 2005/05/27 for "wmp v10.00.00.3802" by lark et inoyan. For me WMP closes after I say Ok OK to the message box.Now open Notepad and paste the data.
Save it as <yourfilename>.key, remember to Save As all files and as .key not .txt, save it inside drm2 folder inside drm2wmv1241 folder.

8) Last and easy part, copy your protected DRM file into the folder "drm2wmv1241"(where the drm1 and drm2 folders are also located). Now
drag and drop the media file onto the drm2wmv_e.exe. A Dos window should pop up and show you the decoding progress. Itll will save a file called {NODRM}<your filename>.wmv in the same directory.(its possible u might be able to skip the steps 1 and 2 with the newer drmdbg527,ie you might not need the drmv2clt) For me, 126mb took like 5 seconds to decode.

There are many variations using the DRM2WMV and DRMdbg out there. This method worked for me. You might not need to change the 9,10,11,12 lines.

I did all this and it really worked.

The last thing: Seek in the new un-drm file was not working. So I followed the directions in the post by TurdSplat (Thanxs TurdSplat!!)

Its very very easy. Just download the program asbingui0.1 and follow the instructions in the post from TurdSplat and its done.

I Un-drm a 250mb wmv and fixed the seek problem in less than 1 minute.

Hope this helps.

I think the importance of my post is that I could Un-drm without having to do a fresh install of win xp.

Try This: You have to uninstall WMP, then delete the C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player folder, then reinstall. I actually had to delete all the files within the WMP folder because it wouldn't let me delete the folder itself so you might have to do that.

I have XP SP1 and WMP 9. I was able to de-DRM the file except I used a SID from another WMV because I didn't have the license to get the correct one so it came out green and pixelated and the audio was garbled. But it is possible to De-DRM it.

Just to eliminate 1 step as being the problem here's EXACTLY what should be in the key files (1 in the DRM1 folder and 1 in the DRM 2 folder):

If you want to be able to de-DRM any DRM'd WMV on your PC, you could just install a virtual machine (PC emulator) and install XP on that and upgrade WMP 8 on that XP to WMP 9. A good one is VmWare (http://www.vmware.com/) . But it costs almost 200 dollars so if you don't wanna pay for it you can get it from any p2p and probably also BitTorrent and Newsgroups, not to mention IRC and FTP.

If you just want this file de-DRMed, than post (PM would would probably be better) the username and login for the service you used to play the file so I can get the license to play it and then get the SID. Then I'll post the SID and you can paste it in the key files and de-DRM it yourself. Drm2wmv.exe doesn't need WMP for anything (incase you didn't know) so that should work.

Edit: I just upgraded to XP SP2 and DrmDbg (DOS and GUI version) still worked. So it doesn't matter what XP SP you have only which version of WMP you have. Oh, and you don't need Japenese DLL's either. So if you could just figure out how to roll back to WMP 9, your problems would be solved.

I tried translating the txt file that comes with it using an online translator. Hardly clear but you get the jist. I just tried it in WMP v10.00.00.3802 and nothing seemed to happen, although it didn't close down this time. Any other feedback?

It would seem that my IndivBox.key file is version 10.0.0.3930 so it will not work with the latest DrmDbg. I will try this on another computer.

Right i've tried two different computers, this is what I get:

Windows XP SP2 Professional
WMP 10.00.00.3802
IndivxBox.key 10.00.00.3930
DRMV2Clt.dll 10.0.0.3802

1201 and 1113 have the same response as 621. Windows Media Player just shuts down immediately and nothing happens.

With 1207, Windows Media Player plays the song as it would normally, but nothing else happens.

Windows XP SP2 Professional
WMP 9.00.00.3250
IndivxBox.key 10.00.00.3646
DRMV2Clt.dll 9.00.00.3250

1207 does the same as on the first computer, it just plays a song as normal. 1201 however works as 621 does, and even creates the Key file for you on the desktop.

So i'm stuck where WMP 10 is concerned. If I knew how to downgrade my Indivbox.key I may have some results, I may investigate later to see what results I get.

I just successfully deDRM my protected videos today with the new released.
My jobs done by using drmdbg1113 and drmdbg1201 but drmdbg1207 doesn't work with my sistem.

My system is:
XP-Pro-SP2
WMediaPlayer = 9.0.0.3250
drmv2clt.dll = 10.0.0.3646
indivBox.key = 10.0.0.3646
drmclien.dll = 10.0.0.3646
blackbox.dll = 10.0.0.3646

When i got these new drmdbg, i roll back my WMP 10.00.00.3646 to WMP 9.00.003250 and do my jobs and its all successfully done. The licenses for the protected contents was already in my system a few months ago and can't be deDRM by drmdbg621 version and below.

Can I just say that uy_boy's Instructions worked perfectly for my protected content, I also couldn't believe how fast I done them (about 100 files in an hour)

Now just to find a way to remove DRM from WMV without backup licenses!

No ZlatkoT, remove DRM from WMV without backup licenses or w/o licenses is illegal operation. But unDRM WMV files with licenses present (legally own) i think is fair for us because we own them.

I don't know which word is exact to use for DRM removing. ( unDRM or deDRM or unFvck or unSvck or freeMe etc.) Still confuse. :rolleyes:

It is really possible. DRM tool of MS decryptes protected file by generating a certain SID for a certain KID. And it sure has an algorithm to generate SID. It might be discovered by crackers what way it generates SID from KID and a keygen may be written for this procedure. In this situation you don't even need to have a license to unprotect the file and there would be no need to use a debugger to monitor SID. You would only type KID and new key generator would return SID, that's all.
I believe it will not take long that someone will do it. It might even already be done.
By the way, it would be illegal to unprotect a WMV file which we don't have a license for.

Well I used to own the licenses (they only existed for 3 day period) for the Idols SA 2 competition in 2003, but after contacting the official website then the official media site, they no longer provided or continued with such a license.

I know ozgur what you mean, it's like an unsolved but solvable riddle. :D

I managed to get WMP 10.00.00.3802 working with IndivBox.key 10.0.0.3646. I'm wondering if I can still use drmdbg1207 with WMP10 3802.

Better yet. Anyone have the installation file for WMP 10.0.0.3650?

JiJi, do rollback in Add/Remove programs as suggested in uy_boy's great tutorial, it will rollback to WMP9 perfect for using these.

I know that. I already have the tools working with WMP9 on another computer. I'm tryin to get it to work with WMP10.

Right now, I'm messing around with:

I needed to replace all these DLLs. If I had only replaced drmv2clt.dll, and not the others, Windows would replace IndivBox.key 3646 with 3802. Problem with this is, WMP 10.00.00.3802 won't work with 3646 DLLs. WMP will ask to install codecs, then fail to open any DRMed media.

Most likely, drmdbg1207 won't work unless you have WMP 10.0.0.3650.

Oh. And, drmdbg1113, 1201 and 1207 won't work on my computer with WMP9. I haven't installed WMP10 on that computer, so I'm guessing they don't work because of IndivBox.key being 9.0.0.3250 or whatever (I haven't checked).

I had to wait five days after registering in order to make this post (who's the genius that came up with that?). I could be wrong here but I think some of you guys are missing one of the most important issues with getting drmdbg to work, namely the Microsoft Update KB891122 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=f3903e13-7d01-4db7-9e6f-e9dffac6731e&displaylang=en).

It doesn't seem to be listed in the installed programs in Control Panel but you can find out if you've installed it by looking under C:\Windows and see if you have a compressed folder called $NtUninstallKB891122$.

My source of DRM'ed files comes from The BBC. I'm on a limited trial where you can download BBC programmes but they expire after 7 days. Up until recently I was able to remove the DRM using 'ablade's instructions earlier in this thread (page 15) and an installation of VMWare.

Last week when I was trying to acquire a license for a newly downloaded programme, WMP9 popped up a window telling me I had to install a Microsoft update. It would not let me continue without doing so. The update was KB891122. After installation drmdbg would no longer work. I then tried jerry07's newest version of drmdbg but that wouldn't work either.

I bet that NOBODY who has KB891122 installed on their system can get drmdbg to work. If that's true then it's only a matter of time before existing content providers upgrade their systems and, like the BBC, make the installation of the upgrade compulsory before a license is issued. We need a new version of drmdbg.

Can anyone blow my theory out of the water by being able to use drmdbg with KB891122 installed?
