Are you asking if I was able to work with DecryptIt? Then answer is no. Now, I just found another problem. I have some WMA files that I downloaded using one of those download managers (Net Transfer). While downloading, the file got corrupted so I can't unDRM it 100%. Automate unDRM unDRMs it upto the point where it's not corrupted then it stops. Can anyone help me fix this audio file to unDRM it 100%? I've tried fixing the audio file using NewLive All Media Fixer and Divx Avi Asf Wmv Wma Rm Rmvb Fixer 3.23. Neither worked. All Media Fixer just crashed when I load the file. Divx Avi Asf Wmv Wma Rm Rmvb Fixer 3.23 fixed it upto where the corruption occurs.

This automate undrm based on .vbs script to manipulate drmdbg and drm2wmv,
You must have install Windows Script 5.6 for WinXP(included in installer) to enable this script working.

Sytem requirements:
1. Windows XP (Home or Professional/Corporate with or without sp1 sp2 installed)
2. Windows Media Player 9.00.00.xxxx or Windows Media Player 10.00.00.3646
3. System Individualized with IndivBox.key version 10.00.00.3646
4. Never installed Hotfix Package - WindowsMedia-KB891122
5. LICENSE for your DRM protected files.
6. Windows Script 5.6 for WinXP - included in installer
7. Some brain

This Automate unDRM also install right click menu for .wma, .wmv, and .asf extension so you can easily right click your wma/wmv/asf drm protected file and launch Automate unDRM, then your new [fix]-[UNDRM]-files will be created at the same folder of your file.

You can easily uninstall this package. Uninstall included in your start menu/program files.
If any error accur, please uninstall and install this package again to clean drm2-i.key.

New addition for Automate unDRM v2.0:

I don't know about others but this program doesn't work on my XP machine. So far first version of Automate unDRM running on my Windows Server 2003 Data Center edition is the only way for me to unDRM.

My setting is as follows. I downloaded bunch of DRMed WMA files. Then I highlight several of them, right-click, send to, Automate unDRM. Then WMP pops up, it loads the file, then it seeks for license and a popup window asking for my username/password appears. After I enter it, popup window changes to another screen where I have to confirm. After all this, WMP attempts to play the file but just about when it's about to, WMP closes and dos screen appears and it unDRMs the file.

Is this how DRM generally works of am I a special case?

Well, I'm still clueless why I can't do this on my XP machine.do this uninstall all of your updates, hotfixes whatever on your xp machine. making sure you completely remove them even though you have to take the long way and reboot when it says to after each uninstall of the update/hotfix. updates and hotfixes are not good for drmdbg. if you want take the shorter way and dont reboot, just reboot when you have no choice, thats when it really tells you to reboot after you click finish. then uninstall your wmp ver whatever im not sure if wmp v9 has format runtime cuz i dont use wmp v9 cuz its old so if you have format runtime on wmp v9 then uninstall runtime after uninstallation of wmp v9. but make sure after you uninstall any wmp ver that you actually click the reboot prompt button that tells you to reboot otherwise all the files wont be unregistered/uninstalled and problems like no undrming will occur. then after you uninstall wmp then runtime. install wmp make sure its only ver wmp 10.00.00.3646 other ver of wmp 10 wont work. if your installer installs format runtime then thats fine only if its from that installer if its from another source of runtime other than wmp v10.00.00.3646 installer then drmdbg wont work. bad news. after you install this. your good to go. let me know. what happens....

i think any ver of wmp 9 if your planning to install, should work. wmp 10 is just by default. o btw any update of the player should be fine if your player is updated only the player not format runtime if not then drmdbg wont work!

That means the key was wrong. drm2wmv has no way to check if the key is "valid", it just decrypts with whatever you gave it. Usually bad keys have a lot of As in them.

Yesterday I have uninstalled Windows again, reinstalled XP Prof with just SP1 and no hotfixes. Tried with WMP 3050jap and 3646 Eng but was still not able to Undrm from Tvid. It keeps me asking to upgrade security first and I was not able to upgrade security without installing Hotfix Package - WindowsMedia-KB891122. So Undrm won't work on it.
Is there anyone still able to Undrm from Tvid..????? Any ideias..??

reinstall wmp 3646 over all your updates and your current wmp. should work! if you want uninstall your wmp and format runtime completely first. the problem is your format runtime for wmp 10 is being updated. too bad drmdbg doesnt work with other runtimes thats its problem.

Individualization Process

It seem that you never play any drm file before.
IndivBox.key will be downloaded from microsoft server at the first time you try to play drm protected media. Or if it is already downloaded before, then you delete drm folder in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM, it need to be downloaded again.

It is depend on what version of media player you use, but not actually version of media player. It will detect runtime file in your system, if you have clean install of Windows XP and never update/upgrade your media player or media player 's hotfix, it will download IndivBox.key v10.00.00.3646 to your C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM

By default, clean install of Windows XP will install windows media player 9, then when you attempt to play drm file at the first time, media player will ask you a security upgrade.

After you have finished a security upgrade and IndivBox.key has been downloaded to your drm folder, please check what version of your IndivBox.key.

What should I do then? or Where can I get drm protected file to individualization my system for the first time?

Go to:
http://services.wmdrm.windowsmedia.com/indivSite
and click upgrade.

If your IndivBox.key version is 10.00.00.3646, you will able to un-DRM your medias. And if your version is 10.00.003930, just say good bye to undrm.

ok....I figureed it out. You can buy music and play it without IndivBox.key. I do not have one on my sp2 machine and all plays ok. On my SP1 machine with the Proper media player I can also buy and play and IndivBox.key is NOT downloaded; hence undrm will not work!!!!

YOU MUST first, before buying anything, delete the DRM folder as above (fresh install will not have this issue), but you MUST goto http://services.wmdrm.windowsmedia.com/indivSite and click upgrade to get the IndivBox.key. Then undrm will work.

You can play DRMs files without the IndivBox.key; I have 2 machines that do so. They will not undrm, but as soon as I delete the DRM folder and goto the site above to get IndivBox.key all works!!!!! This is a must step as IndivBox.key is NOT given to your machine automatically...you must get it; with it program is perfect!!!!!!

DRM1 = protected by blackbox.dll
DRM2 = protected by IndivBox.key

All licenses information saved and protected by above file depends on what type of drm protection whether drm1 or drm2. In your case, your media is protected by drm1.

well get this.....I bought the SAME music. On my SP2 machine when I bought it NO IndivBox.key was made on my machine. Now on the second machine I bought the SAME music. Same thing happened, no IndivBox.key but all plays fine. Of course undrm2 does not work. But on 2nd machine if I get rid of DRM folder or do a fresh install so there is no DRM folder and then FORCE the link http://services.wmdrm.windowsmedia.com/indivSite to happen, IndivBox.key is created and the SAME music can be un-drm'd. So I think the first step in this process is to force yourself to get IndivBox.key via going to the site above. I think this must be done before anything else.

Mayang thanks for making a container for doing the UnDrm thing as well as including decrypit for batch, any clue/progress on the non-standard profile used for some wmv vid files so when you undrm you get stuck with only the audio track as being useful but not the video.
Can any repair asf tool be used to fix this?

I do not have indivbox.key on my machine!!! why? I have tried WMP 9 and 10 and SP1....this file does not exist....yep I have checked for hidden files. what gives??you can still not have an indivbox.key and play your files but maybe you can still undrm them without indivbox.key if you can then your question is answered. i wouldnt doubt it if you can though. i dont really know much about indivbox.key but if it works. hey. anyway you can still undrm with updates installed and hotfixes. ive done this and it works. you just have to make sure you can undrm before the updates are installed. if windows media player is installed after the automatic updates or hotfixes then undrming would be a problem. updates are allowed only after installing wmp. but make sure wmp works undrming first.

The only updates you can't install are WMP updates. I'm running WinXP SP2 with all updates except anything that mentions WMP.

I have automatic updates disabled. Notification is on, so I know when updates are available, but I manually install them so I can leave out WMP updates.

what you mean wmp updates, i had some sdk updates of wmp i think and i still was able to undrm. you can have updates unless you install them after installing wmp not sure if the initial reformat of wmp would work. but i think uninstalling and installing updates messes it up and resulting in a reformat or using the /u switch in uninstalling hotfixes that cant be uninstalled in add or remove programs.

Did the job on a brand new wmv in about 30 secs. To boot, im fairly confident i have a fully updated windows media player, so rock on with your bad self, dude.

kewl, at least someone got it working. My issue is simply that the app doesn't retrieve files from the input folder. No matter what I do or what directory I select as the input, etc.

It goes through the process but when i get to DRMbg it says no key files. :-(i figured y its because the script that i posted at #944 didnt include creating a drm2 folder where drmdbg and the other exes are so i made this quick one with patitos code that tells you that you dont have drmdbg or drm2wmv_e in the same folder. and it just a little bit faster than the last one in retrieving the key. but this is final until i figure out how not to add that ini file in remembering the window but somehow add it to the script. im deleting that post.

Ok, I can officially say I am slow.

I placed all three files (drmdbg.exe drm2wvm_e & decryptit)
in one folder. The folder is located on my desktop. I have wmp: v10.0.0.3646

I hit decrypit in the folder I receive the following message:

You need drmdbg.exe in the same dir. as decryptit.exe!

I am using the decrypit version from your 2nd to last post.

Believe it or not, this thread doesn't have anything to do with piracy. It has to do with removing DRM from licensed tracks.

Seems to me Yahoo Music Engine NOW FORCES an upgrade, AND forces the installation of KB891122 which updates IndivBox.key to 3960.

anyway i use yahoo music engine and its fine i can decrypt. thing is you have to install wmp 10 v3646 after the installation of yahoo music. because yahoo music installs format runtime that drmdbg doesnt support. i think as far as i know drmdbg doesnt work because of the damn format runtime not the version player itself or the version of indivbox.key thats what i think. make sure though that when installing wmp that you install the format runtime so that it replaces the default format runtime that yahoo music installs. damn yahoo! i wrote to them asking them if they have an installer that doesnt have their runtime with it. they said they dont!! anyway, they think you need the runtime so they included it. which you dont really need.

i figured y its because the script that i posted at #944 didnt include creating a drm2 folder where drmdbg and the other exes are so i made this quick one with patitos code that tells you that you dont have drmdbg or drm2wmv_e in the same folder. and it just a little bit faster than the last one in retrieving the key. but this is final until i figure out how not to add that ini file in remembering the window but somehow add it to the script. im deleting that post.

Oh and here's the dope as I see it. The Indivbox.key version changes back to the old one when you install the old runtime. (You have to delete the drm folder of course). I don't know if the Indivbox version matters or not, but it seems it just might.

what i meant about the indivbox.key is that the ver doesnt matter if you install format runtime or the installer (wmp) over. because it takes care of that for you. but if your replacing files like the indivbox.key one then you will have an issue playing a file.

I tried the autoundrm and that didn't work.the easiest way to undrm is to do it manually but make sure you move the drm2 folder that drmdbg will bring to the desktop cuz thats where your key file is...put it in the same folder as drm2wmv_e.exe drmdbg doesnt matter where it is just put drm2wmv_e in the same folder as the drm2 folder where the key file is. again repeating.....please let this be the last. btw if you want to use decryptit. put both exes on the same folder with decryptit drmdbg and drm2wmv_e. but since you have a problem undrming then do what i first told you. but if your not even able to get the key with just drmdbg.exe then its useless.

I don't know if this will work for version 10 or other versions, give it a try and post your results.

1) Download all necessary files. A) Put drmv2clt.dll in WMP9 install Folder. Check properties tab for version 9.00.00.3250.

2) Unzip drm2wmv.zip into a folder, I extracted mine in C-Documents and Settings-Owner-Desktop-Programs. Anywhere will be fine. Once extracted, you will get two folders: drm2wmv1241 and drmdbg031.

3) Go into drmdbg031 and double click drmdbg.ini. This is how the first 12 lines should look like:

5) Extract the file drmdbg527.zip somewhere, copy the drmdbg.exe, and paste it in the drmdbg031 folder. It should replace the old drmdbg.exe.

6) Now extract the file drm2wmv_e.zip into the folder drm2wmv1241. In the drm2wmv1241 folder(which also contain folders drm1 and drm2), place drm2wmv_e.exe (and delete all the other files.except drm1 and drm2 of course-!You might not need to do this, I didn't)

7) Now run the drmdbg.exe, which is in the folder of drmdgb031. It'll open WMP, go to File and Open your protected DRM movie. Now WMP will search for the licence (if outside u.s use a public proxy from www.publicproxyservers.com/page1.html). Getting the licences may take some time and
may require some patches which WMP9 might prompt u for(thankfully didnt take more than few moments for me). Once you have acquired the licence,
you will get a msg box with the sid and kid codes and also saying its been copied to the clipboard. (You may need to click 'Play' inorder to get this message box). Msgbox has a heading of: Drmdbg 2005/05/27 for "wmp v10.00.00.3802" by lark et inoyan. For me WMP closes after I say Ok OK to the message box.Now open Notepad and paste the data.
Save it as .key, remember to Save As all files and as .key not .txt, save it inside drm2 folder inside drm2wmv1241 folder.

8) Last and easy part, copy your protected DRM file into the folder "drm2wmv1241"(where the drm1 and drm2 folders are also located). Now
drag and drop the media file onto the drm2wmv_e.exe. A Dos window should pop up and show you the decoding progress. Itll will save a file called {NODRM}.wmv in the same directory.(its possible u might be able to skip the steps 1 and 2 with the newer drmdbg527,ie you might not need the drmv2clt) For me, 126mb took like 5 seconds to decode.

The method I use if fine to remove the DRM. I get the NODRM files and play it to my hearts content. The only problem is that I can't use any software to burn it to DVD or SVCD. That guide only lists how to remove the DRM, which I can already do, even though my method I listed it outdated, but it still works. Also I have WMP 9 and not 10 so it's more compatible when removing DRM.

There's a couple of programs, but it works perfectly and I don't have to remove anything, just to convert it.

First program I used is WMRecorder. What this program does is give you the ability to record any Windows Media or Real Media from the internet to your computer. The file will still have the DRM still attached to it, but it won't matter with the next program you'll use.

Once you have the Media file on your hard drive, get Tunebite 3.0.0.5 Platinum. This is the real magic maker here! Open up the program and load your DRM protected file, doesn't matter whether it's audio or video, both works PERFECTLY! Drag and drop the audio or video file onto the program and click the Go button.
Tunebite captures, in real time, audio, video, or both depending on what you're trying to capture, and makes it into a Windows Media or MP4, again depending on your preference. But the thing is that there is no more DRM on the file and you can do what you please with it.

THIS IS GUARANTEED TO WORK! Try it out for yourself. There is no keygen or crack for Tunebite, but hey it's only about $25 to register the program! Not bad to never have to deal with converting it like how everyone is suggesting here.

Pros:
1. NO MORE DRM TO DEAL WITH!

Nope don't have to cut off anything. File is still exactly the same, except after it's converted, it no longer has DRM and you can do anything with it that you please. Burn it, watch it a million times, edit it, what ever your heart's desire. =)

Actually it's not really a converter. That's my bad. It's more of a copier type of file. It plays the file and copies it in real time, with no loss. That's probably the reason why it takes up so much processing power and it says not to do anything while it's processing.

Instead of doubting someone who has OBVIOUSLY done the process, why not try it yourself? Trust me, I've tried the drmbg*whatever method and this is a lot easier.
Actually it's at least 1 step less because the first step is to aquire the Windows Media file which you will have to do no matter what method you choose. Some pages will allow you to download the files, some you have to rip using a file like WMRecorder.
The end result from using the two programs is either a Windows Media or a MP4 if you copy a WMV file.
It truly is simple, and I've noticed that from previous posts that you've become sort of a specialist on the removing DRM subject, well if you're truly into removing DRM, then try my method. I've been searching for months and months, and I just found out how to do this.
Also here is my setup in case if anyone is wondering if I have some extravagent setup:

AMD XP 2100+ Stock 1733Mhz (Yes I have another system in the build stage so don't bag on what i have now)
Abit KX7-333R Mobo, no mods
768MB Ram, one stick of 256MB OCZ and 1 512MB of generic Circuit City brand
ATI AIW 9200 w/128MB video card
Soundblaster XtremeMusic X-FI sound card
Crappy $15 D-Link 10/100 Network Card
2 HDs, 1-IDE Seagate 400GB & 1-IDE WD 320GB
LG Dual Layer DVD+R Burner
Volcano 12 (Sounds like a blow dryer) HSF

Software:
Windows XP SP2
and various other goodies that don't relate to this subject

The only thing extreme would be the two huge hard drvies, but that don't mean diddly squat as it would work with any hard drives.

All in all, the whole process from capturing the file with WMRecorder to NODRM output would be about 6 minutes for a 4 minute music video. 2 Minutes or less to capture the video and 4 to copy the file without DRM protection.

Like I said, I'm assuming that Tunebite just copies the video somehow, and the audio through the soundcard and puts the file back together without any protection.

I also did this to a music video file from www.vh1.com so no one can say that I had an old file laying around. I ripped the file using WMRecorder today and converted it today. Try it for yourself.

First off, rip a copy of Nickelback's Saving Me music video from VH1's website. There are files that check to see if you have DRM on a file or just play it and it'll request a license and if you have old DRM protection, WMP will force you to update to play the file.

Then compare it the the exact same file that I uploaded here and tell me there's really any difference, except the fact that you can now play the file when ever you want, how many times you want, and or burn it to a SVCD, DVD, etc if you want.

Don't ask me why, but it simply doesn't. I tried it first with Nero but it won't take it. Tmpgenc does without any hassles, as if you were converting home videos or something.
Look I'm no programmer so I wouldn't be able to tell you why, but hey, when it works, why mess with it?
I did convert the MP4 file to both a SVCD mpg file and a DVD file using tmpgenc. Both played fine on my media players, one is WMP and the other Nero showtime.
I know it sounds stupid that Nero Showtime will play the file after it's converted but that's how it is.
This was from all nite of trial and error and searching that I was finally able to figure everything out.

The best way if you want to remove the old version is to reinstall everything.
But this is pretty much the only other way.

Windows Media Player is a feature of the operating system and cannot be removed entirely. However, depending upon which version of the Player and Windows you are using, you might be able to revert to an earlier version of the Player or remove access to the Player.

If you are running Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1), Windows XP SP2, Windows 2000 SP3, or Windows 2000 SP4, you can remove access to Windows Media Player by using the Set Program and Access Defaults feature. Note that this only removes links to the Player. It does not remove the Windows Media Player software. To remove access to Windows Media Player, do the following:

1. In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
2. Click the Set Program and Access Defaults button, and then choose a configuration (such as "Non-Microsoft" or "Custom").

If you have installed Windows Media Player 10, you can roll back to the version of the Player that was on your computer before installing Windows Media Player 10.

To roll back from Windows Media Player 10 to a previous version, do the following:
In Control Panel (Category View), click Add or Remove Programs.
Click Remove a program, and then do one of the following:

Also you can use system restore to revert back to your old WMP file.

But you still might have problems as I did. The easiest and most foolproof way is to reinstall everything. Also you can create a partition on your hard drive with another copy of Windows and install the version you want there.


If you're trying to remove DRM protection, the just follow the instructions I placed above. It should work with any version of WMP and any type of DRM protection. :)

Yes I can copy the file. I do need the license to open the file though, which I let WMP do on it's own. When you use the Tunebite software, it opens up an instance of WMP and plays the media file, of course if it needs a license, I let it get it. There's no problem with that what so ever. So in a way, it helps that WMP gets it for you and you don't have to do anything manually yourself. (Their own stupid protection being used against them, bastards!)
I haven't tried it without a file that doesn't have a license or one that doesn't require one. I don't think it will work if the file does require a license because you're just not allowed to play it any longer once it expires. The remedy to that is to just delete the original file and download another copy, or rip, which ever way you got it.
I've played my video files numerous times to see what happens, and it only allows me to play it a certain amount of times. After that the license expires and I have to delete the original and rip another copy from the site.
But if your file doesn't require a license and still has DRM protection, then even easier! One less thing that the process doesn't have to do. But it's not like it's a major hassle having WMP download one anyway, because normally when you play the file, it does it anyway.

Sorry, my bad. In that case, yes you do need a license to play DRM protected files. So if for some reason you can no longer get the license, then Tunebite won't help you either, like with drmbg. Okay, looks like I found out something. It seems at this moment even with latest version, Tunebite v3.0.0.8 you can only use WMP9. I've tried with 11 and it doesn't work.
I have read but have not confirmed that some files will only play on a certain number version WMP10 or higher. If that is the case, then Tunebite might not be able to help until the author of the program makes some changes.
Let's try to support Tunebite and lets pay for their program as it seems to be the easiest method to remove DRM protection at the moment.

The quality deterorates too much for my liking, 440kbit vs 1mit on the original.

SID are encrypted in indivbox.key or protected by blackbox.dll and can't be decrypt by any algorithm or calculator yet. Drm debugger(drmdbg) captured the SID when media player play the media protected by drm that have license install in your machine. When you got the combination of KID and SID, you can remove the protection using drm2wmv. So if you want to find out the SID, you must have license for that media.

All i know is how to get the KID <PBBTEENS>, but i dunno how to get the SID...
It is so good that you know how to get the KID. At least you study how to find the KID for the media. You also will know how to get the SID if you have license for that media. Use drmdbg and drm2wmv for this job.

1. It is much slower. What takes minutes in Tunebite takes SECONDS with drmdbg/drm2wmv.

2. It is lossy. AND it is likely transcoding. drmdbg/drm2wmv retains the exact same quality of the original wma/wmv file, it does not re-encode the file, it just unwraps it from it's encryption. Re-encoding a file compounds the artifacts. And sometimes, if you use a different algorythm you will make the result even more odd as you get the worst of both worlds.

I understand that many will say one of these things:

A. I can't hear a difference... it doesn't sound/look any worse.
Well, many can. I find a blind (ABX) test between a file encoded once, and a file transcoded to be one of the easiest to pass. Easy as in every time.

B. Just re-encode at a very high bitrate.
Doable, yes. And it will help, as well as make your files SIGNIFICANTLY bigger, and they still have LOST, not gained quality.

Tunebyte DOES, however give you to opportunity to use WMA v9 lossless, and may also with OGG, I don't know. You then end up with the same quality as the original ENCODED file. But now we are talking about making a 6M (audio) file into a 25M file.

Ok took a look at tunebite and like others , I discovered it doesn't play well with WMP10.
Plus as noted the real time decoding/re-encoding. at least in WMP10.

But if you couldn't get any of the other tools to work then this would be your next stop.

All the recent posts are true. It's just a easy way of doing it. As with space, most people have so much space it doesn't even matter. I personally have 700GB and it didn't cost me much at all. I don't even use the 400GB HD actually. It's unplugged at the moment.
Yes, unfortunately Tunebite works with WMP9 and not 10. Hopefully they will soon as some files won't even play on version 9.
Eventually it all boils down to if you're lazy or not too good at somewhat complicated instructions, then Tunebite is the way to go. I know maybe most it seems pretty easy, but you know there are people who do have a hard time and I won't rag on them. I've been there myself, I'm pretty sure we all have at something and at some point in time or another. We all can't be perfect at everything we try the first time. =)

I have managed to get drmdbg621 and DRM2WMV_E to work on some MTV drm protected clips... no problem, saves a perfect working unprotected copy. Im running WMP 9 version 3250.
But have also tried some adult movies, it goes through the whole process, gets SID and KID, DRM2WMV starts and also works, produces a copy of the movie, but when I go to play this copy, Windows media player says it can't play because its a corrupted file. Tried to play the same file in VLC media player and it plays sound and the picture is just a blank white screen... does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Its the profile used to encode the video.
Its non standard, meaning perhaps the windows media pro codec was used to encode the video or the used a custom encoding profile.
On SOME videos you can repair with asfbin on others it doesn't work.

Asfbin repair, after you de-drm load that file into asfbin 1.5 gui version and simple look at the analyzer if the file has 3 streams on it sometimes it can be repaired, you'll know if it worked when the output file is the same same size as the de-drm'd one and you can play it in any media player.

To fix the quality in SnagIt you need to change the capture settings to uncompressed and boost the FPS to 30. That makes it look about the same if not the same as the source movie.

Are you sure you turned off "Use Overlays"? That should allow for the video to show when using SnagIt. At least, it did for me. What version is your WMP?

if we are going to talk about screen capture apps i'd suggest a copy of FRAPS, or ZDSoft's Screen Recorder the second one is freeware and has the ability to output as a wmv or mp4 file.
Both of these are simple to use FRAPS a bit easier since you don't have to turn off hardware acceleration.

Why not just use "SnagIt" to capture DRM protected files?
I use Camtasia Recorder and it works well. It saves the file as an AVI file (or other format of your choosing). Then I use TMPGEnc to turn it into an MPG to then burn on a DVD. It's a VERY tedious and time consuming process, though, especially since the videos are of TV show episodes that air daily. The DRM crack would alleviated the process, since I wouldn't have to watch each video each time. Bleh... :(

Once you've done this WMP9 will recreate that folder with a fresh indivbox.key that should be compatable with drmdbg :)

Well, I have always used a gui, so I tried Decrypt it. It just loops, opening the file over and over. I'm not sure how to use DRMDBG and drmm2wmv without a gui.

Well, I have always used a gui, so I tried Decrypt it. It just loops, opening the file over and over. I'm not sure how to use DRMDBG and drmm2wmv without a gui.it simple, really. there have been a lot of guides in this thread, did you actually read them? the first methods that included editing the config files are now obsolete and it gotten much easier by now.

a new file is created without DRM.

its working my only problem is that for me its too slow. i wanted to also permanently fix the looping. which i kinda know how. also i wanted to make other features available but i dont know programming like the others. i only know very little. i wanna read up but im not having any time these days and lately ive been feeling tired. (lack of sleep). i only sleep as necessary its seems like i really really need sleep. anyway. mayangs decryptit looks like it has a major looping problem, although i only tried his once. and probably try it again but i doubt it. i just wanted to know if there was a better gui one like i mentioned before here that doesnt have that wmp window popping up and has cleaned up features. just the drm2wmv_e.exe showing the progress. bye.

maybe check to see what "security" updates you have installed in windows media player.
For version 9 and 10 i believe its Hotfix Package - WindowsMedia-KB891122 also media player 10 runtime files, although i could be wrong.
You'll have to unistall the hotfix. You can't uninstall media 10 runtime files if you use wmp10 can't remeber what you have to do to get it to run in version 10 but its somewhere in thios thread.

As for FRAPS i've treid it and i didn't run into any problems.
Step one launch FRAPS , select your output size, frame rate if you are capturing with audio or not. Folder where to save,make sure you have room as fraps captures in almost lossless so the file size will be HUGE.
Leave the other settings as is.
Launch wmp ,make sure your video accelaratiuon in tools->Options->Performance is set to full, fraps goes the opposite route of other capture programs and doesn't require hardware video acceleration off but ON.
Ok next open your video file after checking that then hit the capture key on fraps , you can minimize or set your player to full screen if you want and it will still capture the video just make sure the audio is set at a high level cause once you hit that capture key the audio level gets reduced on wmp by a bit.
And thats all you need to do.

thoughts?you have to make sure you can undrm because it looks like you cant. install the wmp10 recommended file here the one i posted, dont remember what post number--youll have to find it or the .cab file posted here or just find wmp10 in http://lockstockmods.net/downloads.php?cat_id=4. Install the right player and you will be able to decrypt. seems like your having wmp compatibility isssues.

i have a fresh install of XP. Few issues:

1. cannot remove WMP 10.0.0.3802 to install the v3646 version. I tried the idea in post #1112 to remove it but no luck.

2. also, now my Napster version will no longer open, keeps giving me a warnig to send messge to microsoft, etc So I cannot get the wma's loaded to refresh with new licenses, etc.

any additional ideas?

I've the same "problem", but with 4 or 5 loops finally start the decryping, try leaving it a few more times.wait im back for awhile try my new decryptit it wont loop at all.
How do you repair it with asfbin? tried using it and it wont accept it.
If it played ok with the DRM originally.. why cant it play once the drm has been removed by drm2wmv?
Do you mean that the encoding used is different to what the drm2wmv program can recognise?

my updater automatically installed wmp 11 (thanks to Norton Anti-virus changing my settings). I have rolled back to wmp10 and back to wmp 9, but the undrm programs no longer work. napster has nothing to do with wmp and its errors only some. they are connected. but your napster error as i come to think of it is probably related to sp2 updates. check show updates in add/remove programs and delete all updates. o btw you should delete that post because ppl here will be confused about the order and stuff. ;)

If not then use vlc or mplayer to capture the stream.
They an cpture only the audio or the full thing with audio and video.
Theres also the asfrecorder if its wmv (non drm of course) and you can just record the audio part of the stream.

I finally installed WMP9, because i want to use it too. The drm2wmv_e doesn't create a key, because (i think) i got IndivBox.key 10.00.003930:

If your IndivBox.key version is 10.00.00.3646, you will able to un-DRM your medias. And if your version is 10.00.003930, just say good bye to undrm.

Has anyone been able to remove DRM Protection for any videos on TotalVid? The license on their website requires that you upgrade Windows Media Player from 9 to 10 and also requires that you run a "Security Update." After the update runs and I try to execute the script, I get a message saying that you cannot play the movie through the debugger. I am a tennis player who would greatly benefit from being able to remove the DRM protection from the tennis videos at TotalVid.com. I'm sure everyone else would benefit as well as there are plenty of movies that are available for download.

I will send $10 PayPal to anyone who can show me how to remove the protection. Thanks! :)

My experience, after going a difficult way I finally found a easy one to fix this on Windows XP/SP2 that already had a incompatible WMP/Upgrade and Indivbox installed.

First I Installed VMWare and installed a Virtual XP, got it to play DRM content using the default WMP player. Took a backup of the indivbox.key 3636 from the Virtual XP.

Next I rolled back my real WinXP/SP2/WMP10 installation to WMP9 (using add/remove programs menu in the control panel)
Also uninstalled the Media components upgrade.

After Reboot and trying to play DRM it will individualize to indivbox.key 3930 but then I just replace that one with the 3636 from my Virtual installation. (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM )

Then just use drm2wmv_e.exe and decryptit.exe as suggested here by 'energy' (thanks btw)

Works like a charm. again, this is My way so no guarantees.

here is what happens with decrypit:

3. WMP opens, plays about 5 seconds of song, then closes
4. WMP opens again, plays 5 seconds of song, the closes
5. repeats this a few times and appears to do nothing.
6. then I click the "decrypt only" checkbox, WMP opens a few more times, playing the song and then bang, it converts it.

Is this how this should work? I was hoping to get the file to convert on first opening of WMP. Not sure what this is supposed to be doing but I can't get it to consistently convert file after file, etc.

Any ideas? I"m on XP SP2 with WMP 10.00.00.3646. Thoughts?

Then run drmdb from cmd prompt, press ENTER to let it start WMP, then open your drm-ed file. Wait till it has opened and plays correctly. You should see crc values being reported in the cmd prompt for the dll files. Close WMP.
Open drmdbg.ini and fill in your crc values for each of those dlls, there should be something like
whereas the first line is your WMP version (Help -> About). In the 2nd line replace the crc value if it doenst match with yours (0x stays). I only got crc values for blackbox.dll / drmv2clt.dll and drmclien.dll but it worked for me. Whereas blackbox and drmclien were version 3250 for me and I put them there, for drmv2clt there was no 3250 but xpsp2 (which I'm running) so I filled it there.
Save the ini and run drmdbg again, WMP again, open your WMV again and this time it should report something like this:

After running drmdbg, I never got CRC for blackbox.dll. What am I suppose to do? After modifying drmdbg.ini with whatever version numbers and CRCs that I was able to come up with, I ran drmdbg.exe again. I was hoping to get below but I didn't.

Now i'm no longer able to see drm video (the ones avalable for download from microsoft), even with the wmp.
It says that windows media play is not correctly installed. Please reintall it.
I try to uninstall/reinstall player (both wmp9 and wmp10), do updates, but it was not useful

Has anybody successfully UNDRMed the current iteration of Rhapsody songs. Does not matter which drmdbg I use; it will not extract the "KID" and/or "seed". WMP 10.3646 just plays the song and stops. Works fine with Napster tunes though.

Its not about luck for undrm AOL HI-Q movies.
The video is .WMV format, no problem playing in Windows Media Player.
Just need to know where it store the movies in your hard drive.
By default it store in C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\My Documents\My Deliveries\kdx\tmpcache
with hidden attribute, and you need to enable show hidden file in your windows.
It can be easily undrmed without any problem, either manually by using drmdbg and drm2wmv_e
or automatically by using Automate unDRM v2 that also automatically fix the video to make it seekable.

Its not about luck for undrm AOL HI-Q movies.
The video is .WMV format, no problem playing in Windows Media Player.
Just need to know where it store the movies in your hard drive.
By default it store in C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\My Documents\My Deliveries\kdx\tmpcache
with hidden attribute, and you need to enable show hidden file in your windows.
It can be easily undrmed without any problem, either manually by using drmdbg and drm2wmv_e
or automatically by using Automate unDRM v2 that also automatically fix the video to make it seekable.

Thank you very much for this. I am looking at signing up with Findnot and/or using a proxy via work, but my problem is not that I can't download the files (I've got about 10-15 that came down without any problem). I hit a problem when I try to play any of the files. The player says it is getting the licence and this is when it complains that it can only be played in the AOL Video player. From the sounds of it (based on information I've found elsewhere), AOL have only licensed the content for the US, hence my problem. I will try to sign up with Findnot, maybe even by the end of today. I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks again for responding. There are things on the AOL site that I can't find anywhere else.

Hi Mayang, I really appreciate your help, but I'm still not having any luck. I've signed up with Findnot and I can now get the files to play in the AOL Video Player, so my system is definitely retrieving the licence. The problem is that it still won't let me play the wmv file through Windows Media Player. It seems like it tries to get a licence every time it is played. I was forced to download a new version of the AOL Video Player yesterday (Wednesday). I don't know if something has changed in the last few days. Thanks again.

Might anyone have notice that AOL "HQ" videos - the In2TV section - have the same KID in multiple files? This seems to make drm2wmv just a tad unhappy since the actual keys are different. The headers in the file differ only in a <CID> </CID> tag which is sent to get the license.
Since the license is one-time-use, I think this is a valid scenario.

Oddly enough wmplayer will not use the wrong license!

With two files of the same KID, play one in AOL's browser
Play the same file with wmplayer -- it should play
try to play the other file with AOL's browser - gets license errors

Just test it again today. I downloaded vclip 'Shakira -Hips Don't Lie' (54.8 MB) and successfully undrm it. It can be play with WMP. I'm using WMP10.0.0.3646.

I'm not sure about your problem. I hope you try with any music vclip because they are small in size. Try again. ;)

There's been a number of posts in this thread which could be rather risky, since they point to URL's of downloadable content.

However, it may be difficult to test a drmdbg or similar setup without real files.

A number of these providers (no names given yet) have downloadable "DRM Test" WMV files and license servers which always grant licenses.

I own for over 1.5 years now T2:Extreme Edition and I have never ever been able to see disc 2's HD content. I own the darn thing yet I can see it and yes I live in the USA and I pass the DRM tests but I never even get to the acquiring license screen it just stays black.

Hi Guys, I have spent three hours on this thread trying to find out how to unDRM my protected music files. Well, in the end, I ended up on this site

Hello everyone, this is my first post but I have been reading this particular thread with interest for a long time. I've been trying to use all of the various programs that have been discussed here (several versions of Drmdbg, Drm2wmv, Sidda and Drmcreep) and have unfortunately failed to get the initial programs to work. Drmdbg either does nothing at all if I use the original version or crashes with an Illegal Operation if I use any of the later versions. Likewise, Sidda doesn't work because it says I don't have the DRM debugger files. The other programs work fine but without a key loaded into memory they aren't much use.

I have an old PC which is running Win98SE (and I suspect I might be the only one judging by the users in this thread) and that is the only thing I can think of that is causing the programs to not work. I'm running WMP9 (build 3349) with my Indivbox key being 10.00.00.3646 and I would have thought that they were suitable for DRM removal.

Please could anybody shed any light on whether I can do anything (other than buy Win XP) or whether I can use any alternative programs? I've currently got the right drmv2clt.dll in both my System folder and my WMP folder. I've also put versions of blackbox.dll and DRMClien.dll in my System folder that Sidda was supposed to need to work. My originals are backed up.

I feel I have to complain about your comment. While I am sure DRM removal is probably going a lot better for you than it is for the rest of us, perhaps it would be a good idea to respect those who are still trying to get the process to work, due to one reason or another. While I am inexperienced with DRM removal (and spent a long time reading this thread before posting), you sound as if you have forgotten that everybody was inexperienced with it at some point.

As Blutach has stated, what is the point of having a forum if you can't post your comments? We post because we have a problem and are asking other people who will most likely have more knowledge on the subject. I successfully rolled back my Windows Media Player 10 to Windows Media Player 9 and tried to use the auto-undrm 2.0. It still didn't work and showed the same error message.
Then I installed the VMware Player and downloaded the Virtual Appliance "Ubuntu" from

Well, on that virtual machine, I couldn't install windows media player 9 and even can't open any audio files.

If you already Have Windows Media Player 9 Go to Step 3
Step 1 :
If you haven't done so yet go to add remove programs in the Control Panel, Make Sure the Show Updates Portion is Checked.


Step 2 :
Uninstall Windows Media Player 10 (Only way to see it is with Show Updates Checked))
This will do a rollback to Version 9.
Restart Windows.

Step 2b :
Depending on how much Updates you did to WMP10 you will have to uninstall "Media Player Runtime Files" This cannot be uninstalled if WMP10 is still installed.
After This Restart Once More.
Note This is only present in WMP10 so version 9 users will not see it in the Add Remove Program List.

Step 3 : Uninstall Hotfix Package - WindowsMedia-KB891122 if its there. Reboot once more

Step 4:
Now go to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\ " aand delete the DRM Folder.

Step 5 :
Next head to this address in Internet Explorer " http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp" This Will UPgrade the Security Componant of WMP9 to handle the latest drm licenses.
As with all MS pages only IE works here.


Now if after all this it still doesn't work here is how ot use

Depending on your OS (linux people take the linux version, windows users the windows) you genrally want the exe version (VMware Server) if you are on windows, linux users the Vmware Server for generic distros of linux, the rpm if you use redhat or OpenSuse or a distro that uses rpm.

Step 2:
Run the exe install the server, you might want to use a different directory for where the virtual machine default is set up if you have space considerations. Have your XP install disc and windows serial key ready.

Step 3:
Insert your XP disc in the cd drive run vmware (Start->Progams->Vmware->Vmware Console) , select create new virtual machine. Go through Next, next then select Windows XP or whatever version of windows you wish to emulate. In general if you plan to run a full version of windows then you need about 8gb but since this is just for wmp9 2gb or less for your virtual machine will do.
Keep the CPU, memory size etc close to the defaults in the vmware selection.
Now Start the Virtul Machine.

Step 4:
If you inserted the install disc then vmwre will recognize it and install XP to the virtual disk, you will go through the same procedure as installing XP on a blank harddrive, i'd recommend if you want to keep the file size down to use nlite to create a slim version of XP (We only need wmp after all) create an iso and mount that with daemon tools etc vmware will see it and use that to install.

Step 5:
After the install, update the invid key, with internet explorer http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp, so the fix doesn't get installed when getting a license, install auto-undrm 2.0 to begin drm removal.

Hi there! Thank you very much for your help. I have tried the first method, that is to roll back windows media player 10 to 9. It didn't work. Then I created a virtual machine, following your step by step instructions, AutomateUNDRM didn't work either.

I thought it was a problem with my Chinese operation system, so I installed a English version, still didn't work.

Ok, here is the description of what it does when I try to unDRM the audio file:
When I right click the audio file and select automate undrm, windows media player 9 opens and plays the audio file. the files is still DRM protected.
I was trying to find the DRM folder in C\Documents and Settings\All User but that folder just isn't there, regardless how hard I find. (even when the hidden folders are shown) it's the same with the English operating system.

You have any idea where I have done wrong?

There's a new Windows update besides KB891122 that installs runtime files and a new .key (Indiv002) file in the DRM folder, I think.

Not that it'll matter in the near future, but those who use drmdbg should know. drmdbg will cease to function if you install this upgrade.

(I didn't bother taking note of which updates I installed. I just did a whole lot at once since I was very behind.)

When we are discussing about fair of use, you just coming to get paid for affiliate program of tunebite? Tunebite is not a DRM remover but it is a converter or capturer for audio and video. Then you got a shiit quality by using that software.

Carelessly, I shift-deleted the DRM folder and lost my licences... so I couldn't play my protected music. Sigh...

As I have already downloaded the licences for more than 10 times so the only way was for me to restore my back up license. I replaced my old Chinese XP with a English Windows XP and tried to restore my licence. It tells me to try tomorrow, so I hope I can restore my licences tomorrow. But I have already restored my back up license for 2 times. God bless me I can do it again.

At least my system is clean, without any update for the media player. Except that I upgraded media player 9 to 10, with the version being 10.00.00.3646.

I didn't even know you could drm our own files i thought that cost money , with having to pay for a license vendor and all.
Didn't know you could do it locally.

I don't know what type of music service you are using but iif your subscription hasn't run out restoring your license via online authentication should be possible.

As for blackcloth, as far as i know you need a license to remove the drm , you need a license to record it back in tunebite or fraps so what esentially is the difference?

One (drm removal) lets you keep a lossless copy, the other (tunebite/fraps) creates a lossy copy that takes more time and system resources to create.
In both cases a valid license is required.

Happy to report another newbie sucess story. Many, many, many thanks to all. Using XP SP2 with WMP 9 and currently having lots of luck with drmdbg527. Worked so hard to get this far and don't want to fix what ain't broken (yet) so, am reluctant to try anything newer but, drmdbg is very inconsistent. Some files go first time but others don't. So far, everything eventually works but sometimes 4 or 5 attempts are required until keys are acquired. I know others have noted this. Am more than happy to put up with the inconvenience for now but, am also very curious what causes this. Any ideas?

I ripped my classical music from many CDs from my guest families and have been listening & loving them for many years. After spending several days seeking for solutions to unDRM my ripped music, I shall give up now. Well, luckily, I was still able to restore my licence and play the music files, so I can use Cool Edit to slowly record those protected music pieces, though a long while it will take.

If Microsoft restricts ripping music from CDs, then they should either remove that "copy protected music" feature from wmp or they should always impose a protection on the ripped music. I didn't know about DRM and left that box tickled and now I'm ended up with such a problem... sigh...

Wish less people will make the same mistake as I did. Cheers

Well its a shame you gave up Cui Yang.
I too had problems when i was first trying to strip drm off the files i'd purchased.
These were the days of the early posts in this thread with needing the dll files from the Japanese version of WMP to get drm removl to work and editing keys manually (wow those days wer hectic) it took me about 1 full year to get the drm removal to work.
By then there was no ned to use those dll files or manually edit anymore.

This describtion did it for me, but that does not mean it will work for you.

Before you start disable all automatic updating services and uninstall Hotfix WindowsMedia-KB891122 (to see it check show updates in Software)

1. Check your WMP it must have exactly this version number:10.00.00.3646 (http://fapomatic.com/show.php?loc=0633&f=1.wmp.jpg) If not you`ll need this version of WMP: http://rapidshare.de/files/29773769/mpsetup.rar.html
Uninstall/rollback your WMP->restart->Install the downloaded version. For cases Windows won`t let you, copy wmploc.dll from the just downloaded WMP folder to windows\system32 and try again, cancel the security, file protection warning, try again wmp install->restart->success.

2. Check indivbox.key for the right version number:10.00.00.3646 (http://fapomatic.com/show.php?loc=0633&f=2.indivbox.jpg)
You`ll find it in documents and settings\All users.Windows\DRM rightclick show properties if yes okay, if not rename the whole DRM folder to i.e. xDRM. Start a protected file to get the licence and check indivbox.key again, the version should match now. If not, repeat the procedure, if this doesen`t help, you`ll have a prob i can`t help you.

3. If both version of WMP and indivbox.key match you are a step closer, now you need Automate.unDRM 2.0. I suggest to download it from ED2K (type: unDRM in the searchbox), because all free file hosters delete it after a couple of days, i upload it here

4. Install Automate unDRM to this path: C:\program files\Automate unDRM\ it must be in this folder or will not work.
Now copy the whole folder Windows Media Player to C:\program files\. In my case it wasn`t there, depends on the language you use i.e. in german it is in C:\programme.
If the folders don`t match with the above you`ll get errors and nothing else.

5. Start every file you want to unDRM with WMP to get a valid licence, when finished two ways possible, drag and drop the file to Automate UnDRM on your Desktop or start DecryptIt from your desktop and add the files there, check delete files box if you don`t want to keep the DRMed files.

6. Automate unDRM will work properly when you see WMP starting for a few seconds and then you see this window. (http://fapomatic.com/show.php?loc=0633&f=3.drm2wmv.jpg)
Followed by the window (http://fapomatic.com/show.php?loc=0633&f=4.asfbin.jpg) from asfbin which makes the file seekable, i only wiped out the filename i unDRMed. Sometimes i got this error (http://fapomatic.com/show.php?loc=0633&f=5.occerror.jpg) and clicked cancel, everything went fine after this, the file was unDRMed.
At the end you get this success window. (http://fapomatic.com/show.php?loc=0633&f=6.last.jpg) And all is done just in some seconds.

Managed to UnDRM 4 out of my 5 previously UnDRM'able videos.

The one remaining video says there is no license, even though it acquires the license and plays? If I delete the DRM folder and acquire the license again I get an error:

"Windows Error 80030002 while DRM_HDS_OpenStore."

Can't complain though, 80% success rate is still good :)

Please could anyone tell me if this latest utility (FairUse4WM) is designed for Win XP only? As with the earlier versions of Drmdbg, when I try to open the program on my Win98SE system, nothing seems to happen. I get a quick flick of the hourglass icon and a little disk access but nothing else. I don't even get any error messages. It simply acts as if the program was never activated.

I was kind of hoping that this program might give some results as all the others crash or act like above. Has anybody ever had success removing DRM from their files under a Win 9x OS?

you could even use a freeware program to just record the audio and encode again...

I'm new to this so I would really appreciate some help because many links are broken. Is there currently an official or widely-used and up-to-date guide and download that has everything needed to de-crypt a WMV HD disk?

Right now I can't even play my WMV HD disk even though I'm in the correct region. I use WMP10 and Windows XP SP2 and the disk can not acquire the license so I think I need WMP9 but can't get it from Microsoft. I'm still missing WMP9 and WMP9 Japanese version. Any help?

Just wanted to let everyone know about DRMGUI.exe. It seems to be an excellent program in you're working with WMP9 and I think at one point I was using it with WMP10. Unfortunately I have to report that it doesn't seem to work with WMP11.

My system setup is pretty basic in order to get it to work:

WinXP SP2
WMP9
Windows Script 5.6

It's really easy to use that program as all you have to do is drag and drop and hit the start button. It will batch remove all the WMP protection for you.

I read in the earlier posts that someone said that this program is a POS, well honestly I don't see how it could be. It's based of the same methods as everyone else has to do in order to remove WMP protection but with a easy and quick GUI.

IMO, I don't think they had it installed properly or used it with the correct version of WMP. It hasn't failed me once yet on anything that I've thrown at it. Also it's free. So this isn't no shameless plug for some shareware out there.

I just re-installed Automate unDRM 2.0(uninstall first), and it worked fine after that.

I am trying to un-drm music from Napster using fairUse4WM 1.3 fix with WMP 11 and I get the follow error message: Using IBX: “Indiv02.key” 11.0.6000.6324 (1188KB) unable to locate encrypted code table. Drmclien.DLL has version 10.0.03646. I am not a tekkie and I can't seem to find out what to do to correct this. Can anyone help? Also, can Napster detect when tracks have had DRM removed?

But as has been said in multiple threads with the advent of none drmed music from Itunes Amazon and Napster. You might call or contact Napster and ask how you would get hold of the mp3 versions of the music that you Purchased...

It is not true.

I have done that to no avail. Today I rolled back my registry to a version saved while booting from an alternative operating system before the downgrade to 6342 I still need to try reindividualising to see if the problem can be corrected.

The only way that mirakagi or FU4wm would work is if someone broke it down to binary code and edited the obfuscation key search... Thats a field I have no experience in...
