Well with the release of Rebuilder v1.0 RC2 I can now competely without error backup Alien of the alien quadrilogy. Next up is Aliens. Way to go Jdobbs!!! I have been waiting to be able to back these up for a very long time now.
Have you tried playing then on your dvd player. I also have done these movies but they are all crazy.

Well, I havent watched the backup all the way through yet. I just popped it in and skipped around and it seemed fine. What exactly happens on your copy that you backed up? I will have to watch it all the way through tonite. What version of RB and encoder did you use?
Thanks for the heads up.

I used DVD Rebuilder v1.00 RC2 and CCE 2.70.02.01.
I tried Alien 3 special edition (R2) and i had problems because sometimes i skipped chapters and also some skipping between versions.

Ok, thats pretty much what I use too. Except cce 2.70.05.xx something like that. I will report my findings later tonite. Man, what were they thinking when they mastered/authored this new alien release? Seems like nothing but problems. Even the originals cause difficulties on some players.

ALIENS RC2 - rb 1.0 rc5.1
i'm having trouble with aliens as well
the encoding process went fine with hc 015 and cce 2.70 trial (not procoder2!) but playing the dvd on my standalone playback froze 2 times in the first 50 min of playing the special edition

tried burning to different media: same result
freezes at the very same time
ran alien3 and found even more freezes in this title
how did the rest of you manage to successfully back up the quadrilogy?

if you have dvd remake, can you load the rebuilt files into it, and let us know if it "recovers the cells"

Yes, it does for Aliens anyways.

Are you doing any pre or post processing? Any add-on utilities used after PREPARE?
DK
24th August 2005, 17:42
no, actually i did not
clean file mode with dvdd 3540 (no error/warning messages)
hc as well as cce270 were used for alienS and cce270 for alien3
same points where the movie stops for alienS - standalone player will play further when fast forward is used - with hc as well as the cce encodings
i will try dvdfab decrypter now for extraction and try again, even though i dont expect any changes, as no output so far was working

I encoded the Alien Quadriology (R2) with DVD Rebuilder and CCE 2.70.02.00 and everything went ok.
I used one pass encoding and plays in every player that i tested and no problem when fast-forwarding.

I saw this issue with 4.0 i was going to try again before reporting since just to see if it wasnt anything i did (i did no preprocessing) this was with terminator2 ue(r1) disk1.. the spot about 16 mins in when the new terminator sees the kids parents for the first time. a little after the father opens the door the ilvu section ends.. right at that point it sticks.. i let it sit for like 10 mins... fast foward starts things up again.. the other ilvu sections seem fine. this is on my apex 1100w. the bad spot plays fine on software players.
this is while playing the extended version branch
im gonna try it again tonight/tomorrow with 5.1 and report back..

all encoded titles run fine with powerdvd6 as well
but it's three titles so far that have more than one point where playback freezes in the *special editon* not the theatrical version

I think aliens made these disks, this is my disk ( has no Interleaving or angles)

Rebuilder fails (have to look up the error but it was different with the last version)
If you look at the struckture:

VTS 1 and VTS 4 contain almost the same slide show, but opening VTS_01_0.ifo gives this:
http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/5552/ifoedit0xj.th.jpg (http://img263.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ifoedit0xj.jpg)
Seem like i am the owner of a multi layer disk
[edit] fun part is that it plays (original) in only 1 of my 2 standalone dvdplayers

All I have to work with are the Quadrilogy NTSC versions. I've done them numerous times as I was using them for testing.... they all work correctly.

Just an update. I just upgraded to 0.95 and redid an encode of Taxi R1, and it still seems to have playback problems in WinDVD. Seems to work ok in PowerDVD and the standalone player.

What kind of playback problems?

First post; First non user/media related problem possibly...
The movie is Birthday Girl
DD'd movie in file mode; default settings; no errors
DVD-RB 1.0.1 movie only mode; create ISO
DD'd iso to Maxell Japanese media
The disc plays fine on the computer
Fails on standalones; one(Sony) skips ~4 minutes; one(Panasonic) exits

Welcome to the forum!
What region is this disc?
sw01

Thanks!
It's region 1 and I still have the directories intact.
The failure occurs about a minute or so into the movie

I'll pick it up today and give it a try.
Could you please put the following into a ZIP file and forward to dvd-rb@dvd-rb.com? It will help me in determining what went wrong.
1. REBUILDER.INI, located in the DVD-RB directory
2. REBUILDER.INF, located in D2VAVS directory
3. REBUILDER.LOG, located in the working directory
4. A listing of the D2VAVS directory. (if possible)
Thanks.

@sw01
I appreciate your sending the information.
Well I bought this disc and ran it with the settings from your INI file. I checked the directory listing you sent me against the output created by my own run and they match exactly. I also compared the resulting INF file against the one you sent me, and they match. I then burned the resulting ISO file to a blank and tested it on three players -- it plays back without any problems.
Have you tried burning it again to eliminate the possiblity of a media error?
I will continue to test it and see if I find anything strange.
Thanks.

I had ripped, encoded and burned twice with the same results before reporting.

While we are on the discussion of mult-angles, I've been wondering if anyone or if perhaps you yourself Jdobbs has managed to create a working backup of Spiderman 2 Disc 2?

While we are on the discussion of mult-angles, I've been wondering if anyone or if perhaps you yourself Jdobbs has managed to create a working backup of Spiderman 2 Disc 2?Yes. I have done the R1 version of Spiderman 2 (Discs 1 and 2) and I tested it thoroughly.
