View Full Version : No luck adding hard coded subs...

I'm trying to add hard coded subs to a DVD rip (House Of Flying Daggers), I've got the subs in two formats, .srt and vobsub (.idx and .sub).

I've tried the following methods without success:

VirtualDub (and VirtualDubMod), Video - Filters - Add - TextSub - Browse to the .srt file.

The end result is no subtitles.

Second method:

Same as above except the VobSub filter and the .idx + .sub files.

End result is no subtitles.

I've also tried adding the vobsub files into the .AVS and it's not doing anothing there either.

Is there something blatently obvious I'm missing out?

I think you forgot that you need to "full process" (as opposed to "fast recompress" or "direct stream copy") the video in VD(M) for filters like textsub to be applied.
Other than that, did you check that the subtitles actually show up in any case? If not you might have settings wrong in Vobsub, like maybe moved the subtitles outside of the video canvas (when you positioned tem below a movie for normal playback for example) or the font is not readable (fully transparent) ..or maybe there is even something wrong with the subtitles themself (first subtitle appearing after 3 hours?)
That's about the only obvious i could think of :)

I was doing full process, the problem was an insanely simple one (your final suggestion).

I was ripping a chapter in the middle of the film to test, the subs had a timestamp of like 1 hr 40 mins, the clip I ripped was only about 2 minutes long so the subs were completely missing out. Once I'd sorted the time out in SubRip then it as fine :)
