hi there guys,

im no techno guy, so dont know the difference between a 3ac and mp4... but it sounds asif this player may be the best one out there so far?

i was going to buy the yamada 6700 this week, but would you guys recommend the nero over the yamada? all the stuff i play is downloaded, so i have no control over the codecs i would need to play - the more the better!

Thanks for your (knowledgeable) posts,

Mark.

if you meant
- "3gp", than the .3gp format is practically a slightly modified .mp4, supporting also AMR audio (which is not defined for .mp4)
- "aac", than aac is simply an audio coding format (like mp3) which most of the time is placed in the .mp4 container format (like .avi). so to say "aac-in-mp4" is like "mp3-in-avi"

He probably meant AC3 :)

Also an audio format, and one used on almost all DVD's.

guys, just to clairfy, I was not wanting to know more about ac3, but just to get your opinions on whether you reckon the nero player offers more universal compatibility than a yamada 6700.

what do you think?

Is it really Nero Digital - Standard profile - only for this player? From what I see from Nero Recode, Nero Standard is limited to 2 channel audio. You would need Nero Digital - Cinema profile - for any 5.1 channel sound.

Seems like a waste to me - anyone clarify?

heya if someone is interested i now created a collection of all sorts of .mp4 files (different video codecs/options, different audio codecs, aso...) which people can try to find out the real capabilities of their mpeg-4 players :)

you can grab it here (http://mp4menu.sourceforge.net/download/MP4_TestCD_v2.rar)

its a burning image because it also includes a file stored in mode2form2 (xcd). it should be burnable in any of the big burning programs (eg nero)
if you dont want to test whether xcd works on your player you can also easily extract the files with a tool like isobuster :)

Thanks for posting all these bond...

There are some very useful samples for both "hardware" and "software" player users!

Cheers

hello Bond,

i downloaded your file, and WinRar says "C:\WINNT\Profiles\Administrator\Desktop\MP4_TestCD_v2.rar: CRC failed in mp4_testcd2.bin. The file is corrupt
! C:\WINNT\Profiles\Administrator\Desktop\MP4_TestCD_v2.rar: Unexpected end of archive"

has anyone else had problems unarchiving it?

thanks
mark.

no problem here, neither with downloading, unpacking, or extracting of files out of the .bin with isobuster

maybe there was a problem while you downloaded?

Strange, I have just tried again and it worked fine. The diffrence was the first time I downloaded using Firefox and the second time with Internet Explorer - maybe just coincidence.

So bond, I will know when I get my Siemsson player, but in your opinion, is it compatible with more MPEG4's than a Yamada 6600? I just want to know if I made an expensive mistake or a wise gamble!

Thanks,

Mark.

if you want to use .avi (or regarding old .avi encodes) i dunno the exact specs for both (eg whether they handle qpel, multiple b-frames flawlessly, gmc, custom matrices aso...) :(

BTW, I can confirm that GMC indeed is *not* supported. On a full movie encode the player was jerky on a few instances. Apparently the previous testclip just didnt have any frames with GMC used.

What bitrates are supported by the player? most of my divx/xvid movies are above 1000 kb/s so it must support at least upto 1500 kb/s without stutter.
[RCA] up to 6Mbt/s

Does the player receive Firmware updates regularly? If so, does it support subtitles?[RCA] Yes, and yes. Which one you want us to be supported ?

The Chipset is Zoran Vaddis 776

...Nero Digital which makes the subtitle support much easier as they cover 2 subtitles and 2 Audio tracks
