View Full Version : ripping with vobsub: several vob ID at once?

hi there ! ;)
I want to rip subs from a vob file (single .vob with .ifo), that contains several vob IDs, that is several program chains in "vobsub configure". (cut scenes from "episode 1-bonus")

the vob is to be encoded using GK, at once. (all scenes joined, one only .avi file)
I can only rip one program chain at a time with vobsub... is there a way to get directly one "big" subtitle file with all the chains, with correct timestamps?

If not, I could join all the subs, but I need to know the EXACT duration of each vobID...
I tried with vobrator and ifoedit, but the only time info I can get is "min/sec". I find it too unprecise, as it could lead to desync in the last "parts" of the final sub file...
any idea where I could get "ms" info ?

thanks for your great job !!!

actually I was a bit tired yesterday... :D

there IS more info than just min/sec in IFOedit, but it's a 2 digits number... so that's no "ms"
I guess it's "frames", am I right ??
well this could do.

but still want to know if it's possible to do it at once, without joining multiples sub files...

Maybe you can use IfoEdit to create new IFOs for the VOB, then you would have one program chain. Then maybe you can extract the subtitles?

Probably easiest is to get a hold of some older version of VobSub - AFAICR before 2.19 the IFO parsing was not so advanced and (albeit after warning) you could do exactly what you want.

@ rt5 : I tried this solution in the first place, but actually I'm experiencing problems with IFO edit...

@ Yusaku : good advice ! I may have an older version somewhere on a cd-r, I'll try it.

thx to you all ! ;)
