App that trims subtitles?

I got some .srt files where the subtitles are too long for dvd player. Is there any program that trims the subtitles, so lets say that it changes:

And this is just one really really long subtitle in one line.

into:

And this is just one really really
long subtitle in one line.

You just give whatever characters can be max on one line and the app does the rest?

Subtitle Workshop. Set line length in Settings/Advanced first. Use edit/text/Set maximum line length to enforce your settings.

The help file has additional explanations.

NB: from your example, I assume that you meant line wrapping, not actual trimming. For extremely long subs (>2 lines), sws offers features to split those up into two separate, consecutive subtitles.
