How to set up the lead time in SSA?

I wonder why I cannot set the lead time in SSA. I even set the lead time into 1000 seconds, but still the text not appear earlier. anybody knows how to set the lead time.

Instead of trying to find a feature to add lead-in automatically, did you try shifting the start-time slightly ahead line by line? That's what everyone I know who uses SSA do.
