BITMAP COLOR MAPPING

It seems that color mapping for bitmaps for export to Scenarist format was broken in SubRip-1.17.1. Can anybody confirm this? Mapping seems to work for other export types in 1.17.1 and works for all types including Scenarist format in SubRip-1.06.

VobSub-2.23's configure utility appears to support color mapping, but fails to do so (or never was meant to) when exporting bitmaps for use with the the Scenarist format. i.e. cant set background, pattern and emphasis colors for the final exported bitmap. Can anybody comment on this?

TIMECODES

There appears to be a noticeable timecode calculation difference between VOBSub and SubRip as well as a minor difference between subrip versions. Here are some examples to compare:

Can anybody explain to me the cause of the variance here as well as recommend a course of action (if needed)? All three sets of timecodes seem to work, although the VOBSub seems to be more accurate when viewing the resulting video.

When ripping directly from PAL VOBS I found SubRip to be consistently 7 frames off. When ripping from idx/sub it is accurate. VobSub is accurate. I tested accuracy by authoring my own DVD and then ripping the subs.

AFAIK when saving subs from sub/idx using subresync or vsconv.exe, you should not try to fiddle with the colours. Rather you can do this by editing the palette in Scenarist. It doesn't really matter what colours the bmps are, so long as the palette is correct. It's only when using authoring programs that have palette issues (e.g. spumux) that one has to worry about changing the bmp colours so they look how you want them to appear on the DVD. AFAIK ;)
