Star Wars Episode 1 alien subs

Hello. I am a total noob to ripping and i have come to a problem I have never encountered with before. I cannot seem to find the subtitle stream that has the alien subs. I use DVD decrypter 3.5.1 and AutoGK 1.6. When i go into AutoGK i have 8 subtitle options. I have tried all 8 streams but none come out right. I have also tried no subtitles plus all 8 streams with forced subs option checked. Still no luck. Is there anyone out there that has gotten this work correctly with AutoGK? I searched the forums and it seems that people were having the same problem while using other backup tools. Any suggestions will be appreciated. By the way AutoGK is great. Real straightforward and easy to use. Good job on it.

Either one of 2 methods are used in displaying subtitles...

First, the subtitles may lie in a dedicated stream (usually the last on the IDs) as you mentioned you couldn't find or...

Second, the subtitles are in the primary subtitle stream but are flagged to appear as 'forced'.

I think I encoded Episode I a while back and the subtitles are forced in the primary stream. I use GordianKnot and not AutoGK, but the method you need to use is to setup everything like you want it and go edit your AVI Synth script adding the line 'FORCED: ON' or whatever that line is.

Not all the time will VobSub indicate in the primary subtitle stream which subtitles are forced, but the stream has those flagged. As a trial and error method edit the line I mentioned above and load that AVI Synth script into a media player (or just use the 'Preview' button) and skip to that scene. (I can't remember if you can preview this with bitmap-based subs or if it is only in text subs).

sorry if this turns out to be a waste of time, but have you watched what you have ripped? I used AutoGK to rip Star Wars (region 2) and I've noticed that the alien subtitles appear to lag by about 5 minutes.

As an example, when Han comes across Jabba (approx. 50 minutes), there is an exchange with Jabba doing some talking, but the subs don't appear until about 5 minutes later.

I'd be interested in knowing if this is the problem you've experienced.
