I have ~60000 miles on the Prius and have gotten between 45.5-47.3 miles per gallon average over any 5000 miles; I drive mostly mountain freeways (I commute over highway 17 in California everyday, 75 mile round trip). The Prius really seems to like going 50-60 or even 30-40mph much more then 70+ (as far as gas mileage is concerned anyway).

A friend of mine who bough a 2004 Prius only gets ~45 mpg (the new one is supposed to be slightly better then mine) but his commute is only 5 minutes and he thinks this is because the car never warms up.

The gas mileage does get better if you drive in the city for long enough for the car to warm up.

So, from my experience, the EPA's tests indicate the max mpg one could expect to get (for my Prius is was 45mpg freeway - 52mpg city), most people will get less - but this is true for all cars not just hybrids.

For anyone interested in a Prius I have had zero problems with mine, though the 60,000 mile scheduled maintenance was expensive ($900), I have only done oil changes (every 7500 miles) other then that.

I drive a former Police car. It's a sky blue 1988 Ford Crown Victoria, exactly like this one (http://policecanada.ca/loretteville02.jpg), but the Police gear and markings have been removed.

Not surprisingly, the rear doors won't open from the inside, and I can't roll down the rear windows either. But it's the most comfortable ride I've ever had, and man that car is powerful!

Funny though, when I get behind other people they slow down. :confused:

small?? uhh, well in what relation? - to a monster truck?

this year back in march I went to Florida for the first time (in the US in general) and I couldn't believe their relation to cars. Nearly every 2nd street corner is occupied by a car selling business. Streets are flooded by lots of trucks, vans, sedans, etc. - with regard to europe gas is very cheap!! even though american citizens may think different in that respect. Commercial TV-ads are full of car spots (next to the two other mayor types of ads: family affairs and pets :) )
And they wonder why gas prizes are rising that high?, hehe - think different :)

BUT - the father of my girl friend owns a H2 and I really fancied driving (with) that car.

why is it that toyota 200 pickup trucks (small car's not trucks in the US) are the car of choice to almost every terrorist group or (local army) in the world? I started out on an '81 Ford Escort. My dad wasted it one day and I got a '86 Chrysler Fifth Avenue. I got a bigger car because I moved 15 hours (driving at freeway speeds) away from the folks and a Fifth Avenue makes a drive like that comfortable.

The folks then moved 3 hours away, so I got rid of the boat for a '91 Toyota Corola... only it was made in the US, so it's actually called a Geo Prizm. It's what I currently drive.

What avih said before also applies to me: I never owned a car. I don't have a motorcycle but a nice old Vespa motorscooter (http://www.gwenzel.de/cosa200.jpg). It makes 100km/h, so it's not too bad plus it's cheap plus you can park everywhere (very important in the city).
However I plan on buying a real motorcycle soon - some suicidal racing bike like a CBR 900 (http://moto.power.free.fr/graphisme/wallpaper/1024-768/wallpaper%20honda%20cbr%20900%20%2001%20.jpg) ... ;)

The cars I drive at work vary - mostly Mercedes A-Class (http://www.autojournal.de/nam802/kaufb/aklasse.jpg) or Vaneo (http://www.elchfans.de/images/vaneo/vaneo.jpg), but also a Citroen Berlingo (http://www.citroen-babis.cz/vozy/velke/berlingo.jpg) or an Iveco truck (http://www.rehauer-blitz.de/images/iveco.jpg). When I'm lucky I get to drive a Volvo S60 (http://www.arabam.com/fuar/2002/paris/volvo_s60r_xx.jpg) or a NIssan X-Trail (http://www.cardesignnews.com/events/paris2000/features/nissan-xtrail/#) (those are the cars of our marketing department, but we share cars when we need to)

I drive a 92 VW Scirocco, last production year, tricked out, 1.8 16v. My wife (and I on long trips) drive a 92 VW Golf 1.9 diesel (5-6l 100km.)
