Well, I did get to drive my brother's 400i when I went to visit him last year. He's since sold it, but not to me: link (http://perso.wanadoo.fr/ferrarissime/MODEL/STRADALE/IMAGE/400I.jpg)

Back in the mid 1980s, I used to race RX-7s: link (http://www.shophyperformance.com/cart/images/thumb/rx7_body_kits453s.jpg)

These days, I just drive a small Ford Ranger: link (http://www.vanboxtel.com/2004_ford_model_vehicle_images/ford_ranger_xlt_supercab_silver_lg.jpg)

My wife drives a Honda minivan. You don't need to see any pictures. :scared:

I'm reknowned (amongst my friends) for having a driving license and a nice enough car (very old japanese import Toyota MR2 ( But in blue (http://www.auto.vl.ru/gt/pictures/mr2_2.jpg) ) ....but almost never ever driving it. Hate driving, feel really uncomfortable, and never taken the time to get used to it. Weird huh?

Here we go:

First was a beetle in 1981, then a VW cabriolet from 1982 til 1987. Until recently a VW Golf/Rabbit A2 GTD from '85 with 70 HP. This car had more than 220.000 Km driven and i gave it to my nephew. Meanwhile he had crashed the car to a total but didn't get injured in the accident (strong car!) ;)

Now: VW Golf/Rabbit A4 1.9L TDI 95 KW / 115 HP, Alu Rims, etc. but NO playstation and NO Boom box!!! -> No MTV, please don't pimp my ride... ;)

no car, not even a driving license.
The driving license was so half-half planned to get this summer, but i generously forgot that when time was due. I will probably be 30 before i even have a license. But, as long as a job doesn't require it, it's actually no problem. Living in the city, have a bike and swiss trains are a really useful thing.

I currently drive a 2004 Honda Accord V6.
I already have almost 45k miles on it.

I have also had A Ford Ranger pickup,
a 1972 Pontiac Vetura 2(first old crap car that I owned),
a Nissan Maxima, a Chevy mini-van(inherited from my dad).

i never owned a car, i've been driving motorcycles ;). for the last 6 years i've been riding a BMW F650 (http://www.bmw-motorrad.com/com/en/products/enduro/f650gs/f650gs_main.html) '98 model.

i really like riding bikes, and in few weeks my brother and me might even go donington-park (england) to a race school (1 day, just for the experience)

when i was married, my wife had a VW polo. cute car. so we chose the vehicle according to the amount of fun we wanted to have ;)

Currently driving a 1986 Chevy Celebrity. It's near death, but I've gotten 7-8 years out of it and it was heavily used to begin with. Will probably move on to a similar year car, new ones are for people too stupid to know basic repairs and who want to waste money. ;p

'89 corolla.

it's got one of those "P!" symbols that Haruko from FLCL has on her '64 vespa, and i just got a new bumper sticker: "help the government - honk if you're a terrorist" (i caught 3 terrorists on the way home from geelong the other day).

top speed ~ 130kph (at this speed it's blowing chunks of metal out the exhaust)

average speed ~ 110kph (i'm a nutter)

i used to have an '81-83 datsun bluebird - it was kinda half an 81 and half an 83 :), and had a cool sunroof that you could use to break in when you lock the keys in it. funnily enough nobody bothered to break into it:)

the cops took it off the road because they were bored (said the exhaust was too loud, and thus unroadworthy which is bollocks, but didn't notice the rust that was threatening to split the poor thing in two). in retrospect it's probably a good thing it was taken off the road forcibly, because i'd have driven it until it fell apart otherwise. shame. it still had 3 good cylinders, too.

Hi,

1. in 1994 Golf 2 and VW T2 (4x4) Caravan (both of my parents)
2. 1995 got the Golf 2 for my own ;)
3. 1999 VW Lupo (worst car, I can think of)
4. 2000 crashed the Lupo and got a VW Polo

Hm, seems to be only German cars (that are the best anyway ;) )

OK, Wilbert, where is your caravan, as you are from the Netherlands...:D

And btw: Is the German doom9 / gleitz board down ?

i had a SEAT Ibiza for about 7 years, from my parents.
2 years ago i bought a VW Golf 3, takes 9-10l/100km, but was the only one i could afford at this time. since i'm not driving too much, it is ok.
my dream car is a Honda Prelude, one of the older models with the triangular backlights.

10L/100Km is pretty good isn't it? i'm lucky if i get 500km out of my 50L tank (in fact i only get past the 500 mark if i fill with premium).

least it's not one of those awful 4WD/SUV things. i wish i had a missile launcher mounted james bond style under the headlights for those goddamn things. urban assault vehichles. don't know how to get out of your way, either. and strange that such expensive cars don't seem to come with working indicators (at least i haven't seen one of these rotten things indicate before cutting me off).

[/road rage] :)

Zap_Bee
14th September 2004, 09:23
i think it's too much. newer cars only need about 5-6l/100km, Diesel cars (you know diesel? different type of fuel, not "normal" gasoline, don't know how you call it) need 4-5l/100.
and if you see the fuel prices in germany (>1€/l, premium fuel for 1,30€/l), youŽd celebrate every traffic jam you are not stuck in.

You may diagree with may but that doesnt change anything about whether you are right or not :)

Think about Porsche, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi and maybe a little bit Volkswagen (just a little) and compare it with

Japanese Cars ? Ok, some Honda sportcars are fine like the S2000 http://www.acyi68.ukgateway.net/ But the rest ? Mitsubishi Colt ? :scared:

British Cars ? Ok, TVR is nice or a Range Rover, but other British produktion ?

French ? Forget it :D Some Italian Cars are cool, you know which I mean, but please dont try to start them in the winter.

Because of this you are right, if you live in Finland or Alaska...

Russian Cars are the best, if they wont start in the winter, just go and collect some wood to make a little campfire under your motor. Works :)

You have a good point there (sadly) :(

Anyway, German cars suck. They are all the same "boxes" with no soul inside. Can't beat a quality British hand-made Aston or anything from Japan/Korea.

Even Porshe is not cool anymore. Everyone has it. Did you ever notice that mostly women drive those? (at least in here).

Man, I wish I were blond and had bigger breasts

Back where I used to live in the New York Metropolitan area, Porsches were generally owned by blood sucking lawyers, ie the ones that will put themselves and their mom in jail to make a buck or two. The blond, augmented MILFs in the area would be frequently seen driving Lexus, Chevrolet/GMC or Mercedes SUV's, while the Mafia wives would have a new Escalade with new bling-bling once every month. The fake W.A.S.P.'s stick to their Toyota Land Cruisers. The Range Rover is so two decades ago.

Now the one thing about having blond hair and big (silicone) breasts is that you would have no soul like a german car and cause many a traffic accident.

I'm actually looking to get a new car. The poor 1990 Saab 900s died (I called her Inga) a week before my west coast move. Suggestions on to what I should get?

Only disadvantage @ German cars -> They cost way too much... :sly:

Japanese cars (inclusive l33t customizing) are much cheaper !!!

But whats the advantage of German cars ???

They won't crack into pieces if you drive faster than 200km/h (-> The Fast n' the Furious)... :D

Btw, does the US audience really believe that a car cracks into pieces @ such speeds ???

pls remember that wasn't what i asked in the first place (although i might have to admit it might kinda implie it, after all if we've got the necessary money, we drive what we like :P)

and oh pls, a SL 600, not your type ?!? - imho one of the coolest car available - not some asian playmobile kit where you can stick on a plastic front spoiler and add some nitro yourself - that's a serious car :)

and btw, have you ever seen a woman drive one of these porsches: http://www.germancarfans.com/features.cfm/featureid/1020816.001/porsche/1.html - hehe i don't think so :D

although, i have to admit an EVO VIII wouldn't be the worst either :P

oh and btw, pls guys, keep it civil, thanks

I drive a white 2002 Toyota Prius, before that I drove a 1984 Toyota Tercel wagon.

The Tercel was a great car until the insurance company totaled it when someone rear ended me and the hatch door was badly dented. Its major fault was that it didn't have any acceleration.

The Prius is wonderful, I love the CVT aspect of the hybrid transmission and it has plenty of acceleration.

Yes, this is true. The US Environmental Protection Agency tests cars for gas mileage on a dynomometer and then analyzes the exhaust gasses. You would think they'd drive it on a real road and measure how much gas it eats!
