import subtitles in encore

i m trying to import a subtitle in my project.
My first step is converting my srt to encore subs with subtitle workshop. But when i import the txt , it says overlap found at 1:00:15
. But i can't find no overlap !! . I deleted the line causing the problem but encore gives the same overlap error on the next line.
This problem also occurs when i import any other subtitle!!
tried another m2v with another subs.txt but still same problem but on 1:00:03.
I think Encore always give an error if subs longer than 1 hour.
A bug in encore or is it something i m doing wrong

How do u import the .txt output that came from subtitle workshop? When i import it i get a error,
unable to import subtitle script,this is not a unicode file,
try resaving as UTF-8 or UTF-16 and reimport.
Does somebody know why this happens? If i know then i can help u with the overlap problem. What version of encore du u use? Hope we can help eachother.

open your txt in notepad and save as unicode.
Then try reimporting

Thanks for the answer,i imported the subs and the only ones overlapping where at 1 hour 55 minutes at the 2 last subtitles.
Are u working with ntsc or pal tiemcoded subs? I now did a ntsc movie and they where unsynced with the movie but when i use it in maestro they are in sync with the movie,when i open them in subtitle workshop and change the output to 29.97 the time of the subs are very different then the other ones. The timecodes differs to much with the movie so don't know if there is a way to fix that? Maybe ur problem has to do with subs that are shown to long and encore doesn't handle them very wel. I didn't find an option to change the beginning and end time. I want to make a menu with after effects and it works very good in combination with encore so hope i can figure this out.

I've done two pal movies now and no problems with the subs importing.
They are in sync and no overlapping.

Cant get rid of overlapping problem
Tried several m2v and several txt subs.
Realy want to know what i'v done wrong.

I'm now switching to dvd author.
Free tool and much simpler.

Hi I had the same problem. The cause is that the txt file with Encore subtitles has different framerate than the Encore project. Most probably your subtitles have 30 fps timecode and you wanted to author a 25 fps DVD with them.

A case like this:
00:00:00:00 00:00:01:29 First subtitle
00:00:02:00 00:00:04:00 Second subtitle

will cause an import error pointing to the second subtitle. Even though their timecodes don't overlap in the 30fps-mode, you can imagine that the end timecode of the first subtitle will be transformed to 00:00:02:04 because it is 5 frames longer than the 25fps-timecode maximum of 00:00:01:24.

In 25 fps timecode you have frame numbers from 00 to 24. Every frame above 24 will eat in the next second. So your 30fps-timecode of 00:00:01:29 will be interpreted as a 25fps-timecode of 00:00:02:04 and then you actually get the overlaping Encore complains about.

If you can, export the subtitle source againbut take care that you have selected 25 fps mode (in Subtitle Workshop) before saving them in the Adobe Encore format .
