On my desktopBSD for AVI - DVD (but pretty the same will be DVD-DVD) I use combination based on wine in many aspects:
- ffmpeg for audio transcode (to AC3) (unix)
- hcenc for video encode (wine)
- .. this depend on avs scripts, so avisynth (wine)
- .. this require VFW interfaces, so ffdshow/xvid (wine)
- subtitle is hardest part. Srt to Sup I use SubtitleCreator, and while it depend on .NET it's impossible to run it under wine. I stated this to paddington, so we'll se. Till then I must do this on w2k (didn't tryed ReactOS for now). Srt2Sup works under wine but it's one big headache, even under winzgroze.
- muxman for multiplexing (wine)
- pgcEdit for some final fixes (unix)
- k3b for burning (unix of course ;) )
I know that this is mostly relayed on wine, but what can I do now? On my Celeron370M 1,5GHz I get ~20fps on full D1, 16:9 encode with hcenc, so not so bad ;)
Wine related apps mostly do not requiere some advanced settings in wine. Most of them working "out of the box". Avisynt needs some small fixes.

Can you expand on this, what you need to get Avisynth running
Thank you

I'm right now at workplace, and my home computer has all wine settings, so I will tell more today evening. But in short term: Avisynth 2.55 (but should work on every), current wine build, and some 2 or 3 libraries settings to native in stead of build in or likewise (AFAIR mscoree and msvcrt, but I will check this at home). Then pure windows install. XVID (AFAIR) also needed the same setings, but ffdshow was installed on pure wine build.

Dvdauthor can handle srt subtitles. I've never tried using that feature myself though.

My wine settings for avisynth:
system mimic to windows 2000, msvcrt(native, buitin).
Thats all, and works on DesktopBSD with Wine 092.
Of course it's recomendet to install some windows fonts (arial32) for beter installer looks. I don't have IE or dcom98 instaled (only build in wine dcom). I have directx9 but only for UT, AFAIR it's irrelevant for avisynth.
I think I've used maesrto for svcd subs under win, and it probably creates sups. I must try that.

As for subtitles, I found recently txt2sup and it's works fine under wine :)
As for doom9 distro, check this (http://promarkmedia.co.uk/videolinux) out.

Well i gotta say I am shocked I uploaded to Ibiblio a week or so ago, so a few friends could try it and report there findings as have limited test HD space available I had no idea that Distrowatch had added it to there waiting list and was in the latest newsletter

@Asmodeus
Desktop BSD has one Major Problem in Multimedia it lags a Native DVB Interface like linuxtv so im not sure if it would be a good idea to buildup (what should be) a Full featured Multimedia Distro on the BSD kernel @ the moment.

Anybody who could donate some Webspace a couple of Gig should be good with some decent bandwidth as the final .iso will be around 500-600Mb plus any other storage needed.
I may be able to help with bandwidth...not sure. Any chance of including dvdshrink on this since you already have dvd decrypter on it.

I don't tend to force any moves to BSD :) I just use this system at home. I'm pretty sure that linux distro will be good one :)

I have already been asked to include Shrink so that will be going in although the native Linux k9copy is installed which i understand is comparable to shrink, as I have never used k9copy
Unfortunately Decrypter had to go  as apparantly the new owners do not take kindly to it being distrubuted freely, I didn't want to take any chances so early in VL's life.
Some storage and bandwidth would be good having a few problems with Ibiblio at the moment I may be able to use my own host but am on a restricted bandwidth per month so if it gets too silly will have to pull it as can't afford large bandwidth bills
Let me know if it will be possible
Thanks

Were you going to be distributing using ftp, http, or a torrent? A torrent would be an easy way for many people to help with the bandwidth issue. You would only have to get a full copy to a few people, and could throttle your usage easily.
Just a thought.

If anyone is interested in trying out my little project, VideoLinux it can be downloaded from Here (http://www.tlm-project.org/public/distributions/VideoLinux/) via Bittorrent.
Please read the README, it is in very early stages and some things may not work
Post any feedback here or preferably in my own Forum, the address is in my sig

There should be a new Alpha release in a few weeks to a month, have been busy with a hosting move and getting a new website up and running.
Visit the VL forum for a list of all mirrors.
No plans to include Imgburn, Linux has a very good burning program in K3b

elo,
I wanted to know if the distribution vidéolinux was still valid.
good, I feel what is abandoned for a long time, but our
days linux is really implemented, and there are stable releases
running really well. I think it would be interesting to have
a 100% video release.
