.mpg (SVCD) to a subtitled .mpg (SVCD)?

I have an archive .mpg that has been extracted from a (bin/.cue) SVCD.

I need to add to permanent subtitles to this archive mpg for later write it to a SVCD again.

Not necessary converts it to another format, only need to add the subtitles.

Input:
.mpg - SVCD movie without subs
.ssa - subtitles my movie

Output
.mpg - SVCD movie with subs.

Which would be the most easy way to do this? What software I need?

1. install vobsub2.23;
2. assume your mpg ( SVCD movie without subs ) name is test.mpg,
then change the *.ssa (- subtitles my movie ) to test.ssa same as to your test.mpg and put this test.ssa in the same dir with test.mpg;
3. open test.mpg in midiaplayer , sub will auto display in video and one "red arrow" icon will show in your windows bottom right,it's vobsub running.
4. push this icon and design your sub's style make it look beautiful;
5. last compress your test.mpg in tmpgenc .

Yes, the quality of the movie has very bad with the new compression.

OK, let's be more explicit - there is no way of adding permament subs to an existing svcd without a decrease in image quality - basically you are reencoding it, and that's a lossy process.
Try to restart from the original source material (DVD or whatever) and include the subtitles when encoding.

Alternatively, give "soft" selectable subs a try - some standalones do support them :), and mpc has support for selectable svcd subs (I didn't test it extensively, but it worked ok on the movie I checked). Winsubmux would be the tool of choice, and you will experience no degradation of video quality.
