Last Samurai -subs

Hi guys yeah i encocoded last samurai and when it comes to the parts were they speak japanese on the dvd it comes up as a subtitle but in the xvid movie it dont come up is there anyway i can get this to work
same goes with dances with wolves same thing u cant see them speak there language i mean they give subtitles off to show what they are saying

You have to rip the correct subtitles when you rip you're movie. Just find out which stream is the subtitle that they use when they speak Japanese and encode the subs with you movie. I'm asuming you are using Gknot, just follow the guide and read the step on sub titles.

Alternatively, if you don't feel like re-encoding your movie. You can just rip the correct subtitle stream and mux into another container such as MKV or OGM. With MKV you can use VobSub subtitles, so you don't even have to use an OCR program like Subrip to get the subtitles, you just mux it into an MKV with mkvtoolnix (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=64548).

The English subtitles in that movie that appear only when Japanese is being spoken are burned in (at least they are in my region 1 NTSC copy) so you couldn't get rid of them if you tried. This is in contrast to movies like "Kill Bill" where the subtitles that appear when they are speaking Japanese are not burned in but are included as a small seperate subtitle file.

My german copy (RC2) hasn't burned in subtitles. They're separate! I've tried to do it like described in the gordian knot guide, but the subtitles don't appear in the movie. How do I have to do it? In the guide there is described that: I have to to open the subtitle with the VobSub tab of GKnot and then to position it. But how do I position it? on the right there is this square, there are two, one in the middle and a big one where the smaller one is in it (I hope you understand what I'm writing here).

So where do I have to put the Subtitle, if I want to see it in the bottom of the cropped movie (not in the black bars, directly in the bottom of the movie)?

So if I have positioned it finally, and hit OK, what should I have to do now, that the Subtitles are burned in?

First of all you need to rip the needed Subtitles to you're harddisk. To do this: Oben DvdDecrypter and hit Streamprocessing to choose the movie, the audiostream you need (i.e. AC3 German ...) and all Subtitles that are in your language (i.e. German 1 and 2 and 3; there are 3 german subtitles on my DVD). If you get the Vob file, you need to demux the sound...same procedure described in GkNot. Then you need to Extract those 3 subtitles. In GKnot there is the VobSub tab, click on configure!. Open the VOB and choose those 3 subtitles. After processing has finished you you need to test the movie to see which of these subtitles is the right one, because you don't want a subtitle that translates the whole movie, you need the one, that translates japanese or something like that, right?... (Or test it with MPC playing back the IFO, there you can chose the Subtitles under Filter--->MPEGSplitter)

If you have found the right one (for me it's the third one, on #12 I think) Then position it, would suggest, that you can set it 30 pixels down, then it should be in the bottom of the movie, but not in those black bars. Click "OK" ( I would repeat a step: transfer only the sub you need, out of the AVI with VobSub and then position it!)

Ok, if you have it all, then make the regular steps for encoding the movie, but if you click Save&Encode button on preview, you need to hit "Select Vobsub Files"(and select the subtitle) under "Subtitles (Vobsub)" and leave "before Resizing (default) by default, set. Then Click Save and Encode to make the AVS-File.

After that all, the subtitle should be burned-in!
