SRT to IDX/SUB?

Who knows how can I convert srt files (SubRip) into idx/sub ones (VobSub)?
My intention is to create a sup file for DVD, with the VobSub subtitle quality.
Anyone?

hi,

try with SON2VobSub. Never tried it myself, but they claim that they can produce vob's from srt.

There might be more than 1 ways to do that, but i would do this:

1. Convert SRT to SSA (for instance by SubResynch) <-- easy & fast
NOTE: Don't use Unicode here. MaestroSBT doesnt support Unicode.

2. Edit SSA so that you can have styles you like <-- can be easy, but can be time-consuiming if you select font etc. very carefully. You can't use complicated effects anyway. 4 colors at most at the same time

3. Convert SSA to SON (MaestroSBT) <-- easy

4. Convert SON to IDX+SUB (Son2Vobsub) <-- very easy & very fast

Thanks for the advice, but to convert srt to ssa, is not better to use Subtitle Work Shop? or even srt to son, but I am not sure if SWS supports son files too.

Sure, you can use SWS to convert SRT to SSA, if your SRT is not in Unicode. I just said I would use subresync for instance :)


Yes, I guess using SWS is a good idea here.
i.e. if you are not interested in styling (typesetting).

Colors in styles in SSA from Subresync are defined as hexadecimal codes,
which is easy to handle for typesetters, but MaestroSBT can only accept decimal color codes IIRC.

I've tried your suggestion, it works, but after so meny convertions, the final idx/sub I got, is not a good quality, finally, the sup file I would like to get, would be the same quality or even worse than Srt2Sup.

Hmmmm, you might want to try border=2px and anti-alias anbaled in MaestroSBT. Different results by different settings:

But i dont know the quality of subs when they are put in DVD. I've never tried that. All that I know is IDX+SUB muxed as softsub in mkv.

Yeah, as far as I can see in the samples, ssa is better than idx/sub...
Did you see how it is the subtitle quality when you shoot them on the avi with VobSub? They are very round formed, that's exactly the quality I would like to have on the sup (DVD)...Do you think it is possible?
